For Sale: Wardy's Octavia Mk2 Elegance 2.0TDI PD140, sensibly modified:

Featured Replies

Due to the ordering of a Yeti, my Octavia is up for sale.

2.0 TDI PD140 Elegance hatch, now with a few tweaks and a bit more than the 140bhp it started with! There’s quite a bit to cover here, so I hope you’re sitting comfortably

Registered May 2005, owned by me since August 2010. Taxed until end of April (£140 per year), MoT until the car’s birthday – 23/05/14.

Factory-fitted spec includes rear parking sensors, headlamp washers, cruise, rear electric windows, auto-dimming rear view mirror, wing mirror puddle lights, LH/CH lighting plus Maxidot, Jumbo box front armrest and dual zone climate.

Currently on 105k with full service history. I’m the 2nd owner.

(Technically third, according to the V5 as the previous chap ran it from new as a company car, and then bought it.)

It’s had a new turbo in January 2011 at around 75k due to original unit failure (all documented on the forum). I went for an uprated hybrid unit from CR Turbos, to their Stage-1 specification. So a strengthened compressor wheel etc – standard Garrett GT1749V housing, uprated internals.

To this a custom stainless steel exhaust was added, specced and custom fitted by Pipewerx. The cat was also removed and a de-cat pipe added – remember a cat isn’t required by MoT regs on a diesel and it’s easily passed emissions and smoke tests done on subsequent MoTs. The EGR has also been removed to remove another point of failure, replaced with the Darkside DPF delete kit. A new intercooler was also fitted. A fresh clutch was installed in Oct/Nov 2010, as a precaution before remapping.

After this work the car was mapped by Shark Performance, with the EGR being mapped out properly. The STS box with original map and the immobiliser map is also included with the sale, to allow you to switch maps if necessary. It’s been mapped with driveability and reliability in mind, rather than chasing headline figures. I’ve never got round to having it on a Rolling Road, but estimate power to be 190-200bhp. Torque is around 320lb/ft. It moves along very well I think J

All-in-all there was £2500 of work there - receipts all included with the sale.

Other improvements and changes made (not costed in that above figure!);

Handling and Mechanical Modifications

  • Eibach ProKit springs, with Koni FSD Revision 4090 dampers (the later update, which work properly!) – fitted by Awesome GTI
  • Autotech rear ARB – hollow and light with 3-way adjustability, currently set in the middle stiffness position
  • Superpro Anti-Lift kit – same as the Whiteline ‘WALK’ arrangement
  • vRS brake upgrade all-round – taken from a 2009 FL vRS that was going to bigger S3 brakes. OEM discs & pads, HEL braided brake lines all round, Tarox RoadRace fluid (same spec as Motul RBF600)
  • Forge Short shifter – gives a much better gear change feel, more positive action and significantly shortens the throw between gears. Original included, in case you want to revert back, but I don’t recommend it!

Exterior

  • vRS bumpers, front & rear – professionally fitted and sprayed, receipts included. All OEM parts used for the conversion, vRS foglights installed and working etc. Not wanting it to be a vRS replica (there's no need, it speaks for itself!) but simply the best look for an Octy Mk2 in my opinion. Plus the std Elegance bumpers were past their best.
  • Colour coded grille in Black Magic – professionally sprayed.
  • Currently running a 4300k HID kit, from the reliable and popular ‘Londoncolour’ eBay supplier. Original H7 bulbs also included and the kit can easily be removed (all wiring and ballasts are neatly installed within each headlamp unit). We won’t get into MoT discussions here, but the kit has been in since 2010 and passed each MoT since.
  • Other lighting; Halfords Brilliance +50% H1 main beam bulbs, which work really well. Philips BlueVision sidelights and fitted to the mirror puddle lights too for a better light output. Osram Diadems indicator bulbs all round.

Interior

  • Alcantara sports seats in the front – from the Golf Mk6 GT. These really are excellent and I’m very pleased with the improvement they made. They outperform the standard vRS seats for support and comfort, in my opinion. And they’re streets ahead of the normal Elegance seats which lack side support. Fitted by Ross (Tech1e) with full and correct side airbag operation retained.
  • Facelift vRS steering wheel, as I much preferred the design and feel compared with the OEM Elegance version. Correct steering wheel controller fitted, all done by Shark Performance.
  • Leather armrest top to the Jumbo Box, from a vRS.
  • Audi gearknob – much better than the OEM Elegance one, and the leather detailing matches the steering wheel!
  • Bolero stereo retrofit, with a suitable late revision ‘AD’ version CAN gateway
  • Bluetooth retrofit – Revision 730D unit; full integration with the Bolero.
  • Front interior light with Catvision/red downlighting – fitted as standard to the Superb Mk1 and Passat W8, plus uprated map reading lights. Uprated rear interior light, with individual map lights for rear passengers and an LED centre festoon bulb for extra illumination.
  • Genuine Skoda carpet floor mats - FL Octavia logo on driver's mat

The car is in great shape and it’s been run and maintained properly, as you would expect from such a long-standing Briskodian ;)

This is the longest I’ve ever owned a car, testament to how well it does everything really. It’s so practical whilst being entertaining and satisfying to drive enthusiastically, when the occasion presents itself

Always hand washed and treated to regular detailing as well. I think you’ll struggle to find a better example and near impossible to find another with an equal spec and performance. I originally went for the PD140 to avoid DPF hassle and injector issues on the PD170 (I bought in 2010, before any injector recall was begun!). The Elegance also has a higher standard spec than the vRS.

Wheels – as things stand the car will be sold with a set of 17” Zenith alloys from the vRS. However, my ‘summer’ wheel setup, 18” Speedline Turinis which you'll see in the majority of photos are currently for sale separately but could be included & fitted, subject to negotiation. It looks best with them fitted, so I’d urge you to consider having them too!

Points to note – some light marks on both front wings, from the previous owner. These have been polished back and are only noticeable when viewed very close up. Some minor paint chips around the car, in-line with age and mileage. Mostly stone chips and anything has been touched in where possible. As said, the car and paintwork are in very good condition and I’d challenge you to find one of this age in better condition

Price - taking into consideration spec, setup, performance and condition:

£4850.

Lots of evidence of previous maintenance, bills, MoTs etc included. You’ll get a stack of paperwork to accompany the car. Both original Skoda flip keys are also included.

Any questions please fire away – obviously happy to discuss any aspect of the car and any trial or inspection is welcome. Just get in touch via PM.

Cheers,

Steve

I've got that many, showing the various stages of the car (which I'll gladly include on disk/USB with the sale) it's quite hard picking some out!

BARGAIN!

Someone will get a great car here!!!!!!!

Good luck with the hopefully very quick sale.

  • Author

Thanks for that, feedback is appreciated

I did try to price it realistically.

Could do with hanging onto it for another month, but at the same time wanted to catch people who might not be able to buy straight away either!  Yeti is due mid/end April hopefully.

Cheers,
Steve

To answer some economy questions:

48mpg in mixed use, low 50s achievable at motorway speeds, 55-60mpg possible at fast A-road speeds.

All proper brim-to-brim calcs, the Maxidot accuracy has also been adjusted to mirror the proper calculated figures as well. Was 14% optimistic before!

Anything else you'd like to know, or photos of anything - let me know.

Cheers,
Steve

That looks fantastic that does

Some great mods as well

Not seen it in the flesh, so to speak, but I have seen Steve's previous cars and they were always immaculate

It certainly seems to be the same

Someone will be very lucky to bag this bargain

Thanks guys.

Well spotted Bryan, will edit :)

When you go to view, for goodness sake take your sunglasses, the shine will dazzle you if you're not prepared B) .

You've been warned

  • Author

Haha, thanks! My 4th Black Magic Skoda, so got the hang of making them look good by now :D

I saw this in the flesh recently and can vouch that it's a belter of a motor. Whoever ends up with this is going to be seriously chuffed...

Also made me realise mine needs a good vac!

For anyone interested who perhaps doesn't know Steve, you wouldn't have to think twice about buying from him.

Cracking car and well pampered!

GLWTS :)
