Sloppy gearshift incident

Featured Replies

Bit of an odd one this, on a lesson yesterday my pupil changed gear and then asked why it had been wobbly. On further investigation I felt that the gearstick was loose.

We pulled up at the side of the road and turned the car off, I lifted it up and pushed it down as though it was snapped, then I selected each gear in sequence and it seemed fine after that. I've done a hundred or more miles since with no further problems.

Anyone else had this happen?

Is this on the Manual Monte Carlo,?

how many miles has it done.

Best have it checked out, not something you can have happen while giving tuition surely.

Maybe as simple as a £1.50 plastic (nylon) part worn or cracked.

& then the £65 labour.

Yes George it's the manual Monte Carlo, done 19k, booked in for service on 21st March and have mentioned it to them. They said there's no point bringing it in as they don't know what the problem is.

I've tried to replicate it by being heavy handed, pushing, pulling etc but can't get it to happen again but rest assured if it does I'll be straight into the garage and I've also asked them to investigate when it goes for service.

My thoughts were a circlip/collar etc broken, maybe just one of those freak incidents that will not happen again.

Good that they noticed the problem though (the student), not like some drivers that would drive round all the time and not question why something wasn't like it was.
