Help please. p2100 error code (intermittent)

Featured Replies

I bought the car from Arnold Clark at the start of December 2013 (first mistake I know)

Right from the first few days I've had the EML coming on and going off again. It doesn't have any pattern. Just sometime I start the engine it's on and sometimes of off. It never goes on or off while the engine is running.

Arnold Clark had the car in 5 times and it was still the same so I demanded it got sent to another garage as I suspected they were simply turning it off and sending it back.

It was then sent to an Engine specialist (Stirling Auto Services) and got

1x intake manifold motor

Repair PCM system, replace intake motor

1x diag test

This is what's written on the receipt. So when I got it back, the very same day it cam on again but was off again a day later and continued to keep going on and off.

They happily took the car back in and kept it for a week. When I went to collect it yesterday they've said that they hadn't done anything other than tests all week and that the car has been mapped and this is what's causing it.

I wasn't aware it was mapped and I kind of doubt it has unless it's not a hard map.

I'm waiting on a VCDS cable to arrive from eBay so I can check for myself plus take logs for Faboka to map it.

Can anyone shed any light on weather a map could be causing this or is there anything else I can check.

And it came on again last night and today.

You need to tell us what engine it is.

Sorry. I was trying to get as much information in as possible and forgot the important stuff. Lol

It's a Mk1 Vrs with a BLT engine

With an EGR delete by any chance?

  • Author

Not sure. Where abouts is the EGR and I'll have a look when im finished.

The car does vibrate slightly on idle and again this is intermittent as well.

When I asked about could it be the EGR I was told that would be a different code and not the P2100.

I'm far from being a mechanic but don't seem to be getting anywhere with garages.

EDIT: Just read through the EGR delete tutorial. I'll try and get the engine cover off after work and see what lies beneath.

The intake flap can go faulty regardless.  It's not unheard of.  So you might stull need to replace it.

That's the disadvantage of the newer BLT engines over the ASZ.  The ASZ has a much more basic system and doesn't suffer from those problems.

Isn't that what they've replaced, or should they have replaced it ?

Edit: Posted twice by mistake. Oops

P2100 - Throttle valve control motor open circuit. Check the loom and make sure the plug is secure.

From what you described, it sounds like they swapped the throttle body..

Its the "Repair PCM system" that is confusing me.. is that their description of changing the throttle body?

  • Author

Thanks for the replys so far.

I'm not sure if that's what they mean on the receipt for changing the throttle body. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. I haven't spoke to or dealt with them yet because the work was done through Arnold Clark.

The receipt refers to supply and fitment of a new Inlet manifold flap motor.

PCM is Powertrain Control Module AKA ECU, this means they adapted the flap motor.

Diag test is self explanatory.

Called Stirling Auto services today to ask some questions and was told they won't speak to me as I wasn't the customer it was Arnold Clark. If I want to know anything I've to go through them.

So basically any answers to my questions. will be fabricated.

I can't work out what it is that you want know, I explained the receipt in the plainest language I could.

What I want to know is why this light still keeps coming on after it being in 6 times to 2 different garages.

The reason I wanted to speak to someone at Stirling Auto services was to ask what makes them so sure the car has been mapped.

And if it has could the map really be causing this problem.

For us to offer any insight we're going to need either the fault code being generated or the symptom of the problem itself.

The fault code that i'm getting is p2100.

This is read using the torque app on my phone which was also confirmed by the bosch machine my mechanic uses.

There doesn't seem to be any symptoms except the light coming on. The car still seems to driving as it should with no signs that anything is wrong.

I took the engine cover off to see if the EGR had been deleted and it's not. It's still there. There is some black oily stuff coming from the front near the top beside a wee hole. Could this be the problem. I'm guessing the EGR needs cleaned out.

UPDATE:

So i eventually got VCDS working and scanned the ECU and the error code according to that was P3102 Motor for Intake Manifold Flap (v157) No Signal.

I did a google search and it brought me back to this forum were a member had the same code only with a Octavia. The problem was fixed my replacing a 10A fuse (No 8) beside the battery. And this was confirmed to fix with another 1 or 2 users.

According to my manual the number 8 fuse beside the battery is Radiator fan and is 30A and there isnt a 10A beside the battery.

on the inside fusebox fuse number 8 is Not Assigned.

Does anyone know what fuse this could be to possibly sort this, Im starting to loss lots of hair now with stress. LOL

Thanks again for the replys.

This might be the correct fault code 19558. It says both on the same line i just assumed it was the one starting with P

Just went out in the pouring rain and checked the fuses beside the battery and they are all fine.

Hi, I've had this code P2100 pop up on my fabia too (scanning using OBD2 and not the VAG system) - its back at the dealers now to be resolved - although the car didnt want to start at all and had a code in for a duff glow plug too P0672. Perhaps my flap is failed shut and thats the reason for non starting rather than the glow plugs (if its like the system on the passat. might not be)

Just wondered if you had seen this page, as it offers a bit of info on the Intake Manifold Flap?

https://sites.google.com/site/1810martin/inlet-manifold-flap

Also, did you clearthe trouble code; is it not just a historic one thats still logged in the system that you are now seeing?

edit: this information may be of no help at all. Im a new VRS owner myself and dont know much at all about the engines.
