Check the sticker under the boot carpet, look for the code 7AH, if it's not there, you don't have an immobilizer.

 

You may have the code 7AF (Anti-theft alarm system and passenger compartment control) but no immo.

a mk1 Fab VRS will 100% have an immob regardless of if it has an alarm or not. The immob is either a separate module or built into the dash clocks. There's be the typical yellow car with key symbol on the dash when you turn ignition on, which then goes out after a couple of seconds once the immo has read the code in the key

forgot to mention that in 1998 it was made mandatory in the UK for new cars to have immobilizers fitted as standard from the factory
