Do i need oil?

Featured Replies

Just checked my oil and it's at the bottom bit of the dip stick and not the middle where it was before so i'm guessing i need to top up?

I'm currently on the variable service but it will be getting changed to the normal fixed servicing when it goes in in May.

Do i need oil to top up just now and if so does anyone have a link as i would only be wanting a little as it's going back to the normal servicing.

Check the car on level ground for a start and before you set off. If you've been driving give the car 30min or so for the oil to drain down.

If you check it (or that's what you did) then yes you need a bit of oil.

1l should take the car from the bottom to the top of the marks on the dipstick.

I find my car goes through oil quickly if I fill it right up so I aim to have the oil level in the middle of the section.

I'd stick in 0.5l and see how it settles.

Always worth having a litre of oil in the boot anyway. It'll never go to waste.

Given the TSI engine's history of timing chain tensioner failure, I would keep the engine oil level at the top of the hatched area on the dipstick.

Ok so what oil do i need?

Shouldn't TSI's be checked when warm?

Yes but the 2.0/1.8TSI engines are straightforward to check unlike the twin charger TSIs.

My oil light came on this morning... Checked oil... Seemed ok, maybe a little low. I'm wondering if it may be cos the car was parked 2 wheels on a kerb and. 2 on the road?

It's a 57 VRS Diesel.

You need to recheck the oil as per the Owner's Manual, ie

Checking the oil level

- Ensure that the vehicle is positioned on a level surface.

Go on enlighten us all with this so called history of chain tensioner failure??

As for oil level , I park mine on a flat carpark and leave for a day, then check the level after I finish work

£10 of oil until May is peanuts for peace of mind
