Correct Oil and best place..?

Featured Replies

I have a Octy VRS 07 tdi

Is 5w30 fully synthetic the correct oil I should be using? Or do people recommend/use a different one.

I will be changing the oil and filter every 10k miles without fail.

Are these guys the cheapest to use?

I will be running the car mapped stage 1 + dpf delete in a few weeks if that changes anything.

Thanks.

I bought from Opie Oils through ebay recently, 5l + 1l (to keep in the car) for about £35 all-in iirc.

Fuchs titan gt1 5w30 VW502 spec.

Not sure if you'll need 504/507 spec for the diesel.

Okay mate thanks!

Just a quick update, when I said ' ill be ' I meant a garage will be changing oil and filter every 10k.

Your diesel has a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), therefore you must only use oil that meets the VW 507.00 specification (low ash) which will be on the label.

Okay! However I'm getting a DPF delete and the internals taken out in a few weeks. Should I still go for a low ash?

Can you not find a local trusted garage rahter than use National? In my experience the quality of service at the likes of National, Halfords, Kwik Fit etc. is generally pretty poor.

There are loads of VAG specialists in and around Lincoln that will offer better service and (likely) lower prices...

They'll also know to use VW 507.00 oil too.

The VW 507.00 oil is not only low ash but also long life.

It is currently VAG's highest spec oil and I wouldn't use anything else, DPF delete or not...

Okay this is extremely helpful :)

I was just trying to find the cheapest option while not loosing out on quality.

What would be a fair price to pay for a oil and oil filter change?

See here, this is worst case scenario as it represents a Skoda service from a franchised main dealer.

An oil and filter change is £129. This is the max price you should ever pay. It also gets you a fault scan done, a Skoda stamp in the service book and a wash and vac.

A local VW independant (indy) should be charging less than this. I'd be hoping for £90 for good quality VW 507.00 oil and a genuine oil filter.

A non-genuine stamp, no wash and vac and a less flash showroom to run should allow a decent indy to keep an oil change under a ton...

Get a spanner, get under it and make sure its done by doing it yourself

+2 on 507.00

Nothing more satisfying

i personally would refuse to buy a car if history said national or kwikfit. Best cars ive had are self serviced ones from folk with a couple of cells to rub together.

Okay 'Silver' I see what your saying :)

Just a quick one this VW 507.00 oil - is that fully synthetic 5w30 VW 507.00??

Tbh' ' Lofty ' I've given a lot of thought into doing it myself..the main reason stopping me ( which may seem daft ) is what's the best thing to drain it in to? And where do you dispose of it?

get a friend to show you once, a handy friend. Buy a basin for a kitchen sink to drain into, and a 25 litre screw cap water container thing, you know the white ones.

Poor it from basin in that. After 4 changes go to local tip and they have a hopper for used oil.

If you do it yourself, you know its done and you know exactly whats in it.

I just serviced the VRS. Shell Helix 5/30 507.00 oil, genuine filters. Also changed the gear oil (eventually got the right stuff from the dealer and had to drain and redo it) - would have been none the wiser if I had let the dealer do it. Drained the wrong oil last night and put in the correct stuff. Very easy car to service.

Plan on doing oil/filter change every 5000 miles now.

This worked fine for me:

Need to wipe the container afterwards with some old rags, then empty it into the hopper at the local tip.

For £5.99 I can't go wrong so I'll be purchasing that.

Yeah, well I'm deffo going to give it ago myself. Just need a guide on how to do it, I have a rough idea it's just finding where the sump plug is and where the filter is.

Best place to get fuel filter from and are there cheap/premium ones?

I normally just stick to genuine filters. You cant go wrong then, unless they are rip off expensive.

I think vag use mann/crosland filters etc anyway so you should be able to get them easy enough at the right price.
