main dealer service?

I do service my Defender and our older fiesta, no issues and I have a reasonably comprehensive tool box.

It just caught me out as I have never serviced anything and not changed a paper filter for the sake of a few quid it is not worth it.

I had told them I'm having low rpm pick up issues and they did nothing.

Looking at the parts list I mistakenly took the item "cleaner" to be the filter, not screen wash, especially as I had topped up the screen wash a couple of days earlier so did not associate with that.

Only doing main dealer servicing until warranty expires then off to find an independent.

Cheers for all the info.

My last service, last November, surprised me. It was a minor service at about 35K, exactly 5 years old, and I got quotes from main dealer (where I bought the car), a specialist dealer (where I bought previous Skoda) and a very local small indi garage who service anything (recommended by a friend).

The main dealer was best price £130, specialist was £5 dearer and indi wanted £150, The reverse of what I would expect.

Still a bit pricey for what amounts to an oil change (semi synthetic) but I do like to have the electronic checks etc.

Last set of service plans I did seems okay to me: £299 for two services, two MOTs with an £800 parts insurance AND a £50 Skoda voucher! Interesting to see what they'll suggest this time. :)

My servicing is free, so for what it's worth, I couldn't give a **** what they do to it. It's their problem. However, if I had to pay for the servicing I would most definitely be questioning exactly what I'm getting for my money. £200 for a gallon of oil and a filter?

Not on your nelly.

My servicing is free, so for what it's worth, I couldn't give a **** what they do to it.

The bare minimum, I'm guessing.

Probably!

The issue with service plan services is VWAG only pay the dealership half an hours labour to do a 10/30/50/70k service.

In that time they want us to carry out a complementry vehicle health check and the lube service. A basic lube service via the ELSA printouts only requires the oil + filter to be changed, service light reset and brake pads checked, service book stamped and a service reminder filled in (where applicable) and maybe a fault scan.

The VHC pretty much bumps it up to an inspection service with lights, levels, wipers, battery, all suspension items checked, tyre pressures adjusted, etc etc blah blah blah.

Last car I had was a Civic, when I bought it I took out a service plan. Whilst sat in the garages waiting area one day whilst the car was being serviced a member of the staff came across for a chat, I'd only ever met him once, he was a friend of my son.

That night my son phoned me, his friend had contacted him with a message for me. He basically said what DanSej6 said above. The car gets the most basic of checks and is done by the trainees........tell your Dad not to renew the plan, he's getting a second rate job and is being ripped off!!

Frightening
