Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme

Featured Replies

Have just inherited a set of these on the front of our new Ibiza FR TDI

Has anyone any experience?

are they going to survive a few thousand miles over the summer or am i going to have to dig deep and buy a set of summer tyres and get them swapped over?

I've run these all year round before and currently running them on my octy 3 VRs tdi. Just watch the pressures - keep them at max laid pressures front and rear.

Brilliant tyres.

They will last fine during the summer. They will be a little bit squiggly and wear a little bit faster but they are not going to turn in to molten pools of rubber once the temperatures climb to British summer levels..

I'd be more concerned about running around with them on the front if we get frost/snow... will leave the back with less grip and things could get interesting. You may want to check with your insurance regarding the current setup and your cover in the event of an accident.

Thanks Gents

I wasn't worried about their performance through the wamer months I just really didn't want to get to the end of the syummer and have to buy new tyres anyway as the entire tread had been worn away in a couple of thousand miles.

might keep an eye out for some summers just in case

Whilst the wintrac will out perform [in the summer] many summer tyres (including Vredesteins' own Sessanta's in the wet), I'd try to save the winters for the winter

Winter tyres need more pressure than summers - even in the summer

The cars handbook should state the min pressure for a winter tyre - once at correct pressure they will not be squidgy even at +35 degrees

i ran the Wintrax on my Superb 4x4 in 18" form - LOVED them.

ran them on my wife's Cee'd - Loved them too!

run Pirelli SottoZero's on my current Merc - not as good as the Vred's but they came at the right price with wheels attached ;)

What's on the back?

I thought it wasn't  recommended to have winter tyres on one axle and summer tyres on the other.

In the depths of winter i don't think it is.

Snow falls, all grip on the front, none on the rear = bad news

In summer i can't see it making too much difference.

The dealer has fitted new tyres pre-sale and have really pushed the boat out with £40 a corner Accelera A1's

I ran a mix on my Cordoba

Winter: winter tyres all round

Summer: winter tyres rear, summers front

Now I have a car I'm more inclined to throw about a bit I'm going to switch all 4 depending on the season.
