2 litre PD

Featured Replies

I know its not totally Skoda but I thought someone might be able to help.

My neighbour has a 2009 VW Touran with the 2.0 litre PD tdi engine and DSG gearbox. It has just started making a horrible noise on initial start up first thing in the morning but goes after a short time.

It wont make the noise again throughout the day so it seems to be related to when the engine is cold. We have also noticed a very quiet rattle all the time it is running, however it is so quiet I dont know whether we are imagining it or not.

He has been told it is the flywheel on its way out, would this sound right or is there something else we can check.

Thanks

I'm probably miles from the point but it sounds like a knackered cam chain / belt tensioner.

What kind of noise? My old Octavia started making a squealing noise after starting it and when revving it a bit sometimes, then the turbo popped so I assume dry bearings?

Find someone who can read out the fault codes. If it only happens on an Initial cold start, one of the glow plugs can be faulty.

It's quite likely to be the flywheel. My 2.0 PD DSG has been making a similar noise for a while now.

The rattle you mention.....with the car stopped and running and his foot on the brake, get your neighbour to put it in D while you listen from outside......I'd bet the rattle then stops. When he puts it back in P or N the rattle will start again. This is a good indicator of flywheel trouble.

AFAIK the car has a belt not a chain.

Sounds like DMF to me from the limited information. Try the test above.
