Cone filter or panel filter

Featured Replies

As above, advantages and disadvantages to both please. Currently have a pipercross panel filter but have ALWAYS used open cones with heatshields before. Is there a change in the sound or performance in any way?

Performance no, unless your going past 200bhp the standard paper filter is fine. With a cone filter you'll get a nice sucking noise and chatter when you let off/change gear but it will sound like more of a tractor at idle

Cone filter for the look (whn bonnet opened) and the sound / roar :-)

But panel for efficiency and better cold air intake ...

Neither for performance unless over 220BHP

I run jabba cone in a box, good bit of kit. As my previous green panel filter tried getting through the airbox to play with my turbo!

Cone for looks and they do sound good when you give it some. You won't get any heat soak off of it so wouldn't worry about a heat shield

Thanks chaps

Save your dough and stick with a standard paper filter

But if you take that attitude of save your money then it applies to the front strut brace as that doesn't really do anything, a decat and exhaust system isn't needed for under 200+ bhp etc. For £20 you can do the s2000 filter and £20 is cheap for it to look like this and give it a growl

I agree with sticking to paper filter.  Change it more often and you will never have an issue.

I was tempted when I had my Fabia 1.9 TDi, good folks at Awesome GTi talked me out of it (talked themselves out of a sale as well I hasten to add).

Not worth it on my standard car.

It's probably not worth it in terms of performance but it's a personal thing, my cone and 0 box exhaust are probably no better than stock but for me it's about the look and sound so worth doing in my eyes

Tbh all the bits and pieces look nice but if your running the motor as a daily hack you really don't need them

Does an s2000 filter for straight on? Just looking for it to sound a bit better really. Coming from a tuned cupra r the diesel rumble is getting boring...

Yes pushes on snugly to the maf and I put a jubilee clip on for looks. If you search I did a guide on fitting it that will answer everything

Have you got a cold air feed to it?

Yes that's also on the guide. You can run a pd130/pd160 intake with it but I sold my pd160 and went custom cold air feed
