First wash after detail

Featured Replies

Last weekend I gave my car its first mini detail. I'm a newbie but going by things I've read in this forum I did the following...

Jetwash

Soapy wash (AG shampoo)

Jetwash

Microfibre dry

Clay bar (with AG speed detailer)

AG SRP a few areas (only 2 weeks old)

2 coats of wax (you guessed it..AG)

The result...

Constructive criticism welcomed!

Anyway my question is that when I come to wash it next what is the process? Will jet wash remove wax? Do I just wash and dry?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like you did a good job nice shine. I,d just hose it down and wash it with your ag shampoo you wont need to wax it for another 4 or 5 months thats what i do when i use hd wax.once ervery 2 or 3 weeks i,d top the wax up i was useing ag aqua wax its really good no need to dry the car just wash then spray 2 squirts per panel sread the wax with one micro fibre cloth then buff of with a fresh one.

But what i really recomend is sonax xtreme brilliant shine detailer, i just had to buy some to see for myself just how good it is after reading rave reviews on here about it.seems to last for ages on my car and sheets water like crazy.

Hello Bill, how you doing mate. How long you had the Rapid, it's looking good but you always look after your motors.

I'm waiting for another Octavia vRS combi to be built, ordered in November and it should hopefully be built in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks buddy. So no jetwash?

Yeah just looked at some reviews on that sonax looks like the stuff to get and doesn't break the bank. Would I apply it after a wash and dry or when wet?

To keep her looking her best I'd recommend you invest in a nilfisk jetwash- you can get one from argos online for well under £100 and a snowfoam lance- detailing world have an offer for them. I use valetpro snowfoam fromu cleanyourcar.co.uk. Which.is good stuff and not as expensive as some. I'd also suggest you invest in the 2 bucket method and get some grit guards for the bottom of each bucket. Have a look in the styling and care section and feel free to ask questions there as many of the detailers monitor that section.

Wash and dry the car, then apply The Sonax BSD with a small MF Cloth to a panel at a time, turn the cloth over and buff away

I use another cloth then to give another light buff

It should last 2 months or more..I apply it every 2 weeks..So it will never degrade

Thanks. When I wash the car will a jetwash remove the wax and should I just use a hose?

To be honest the jet wash should be fine. I just dont like them myself as long as your not to close to the paint work.

I have had a few freinds that have went to close and took paint of there car i use a garden hose with spray gun it,s got all the power i need.

Jet washes are perfectly safe with common sense...Ive been using one for many years and never damaged any paintwork.....They are easiest way to keep your car swirl free, in conjunction with a Snow Foam Lance and TBM of course

if you use a domestic rather than a commercial one and the correct nozzle - one with a soft wide fan and follow the makers recommendations regarding how far away you use it you won't damage your paint and it won't strip your wax-using pre wash cleaners or shampoo which isn't ph neutral will strip your wax though. BTW AG shampoo conditioner is fine. After you've jetwashed the shampoo off use an open ended hose all over the car. This makes the water bead even more and most of it then runs off leaving far less to dry off with your microfibre towel e.g. A wooly mamouth. Once you start all this though there's no known cure......

Some really helpful comments off everyone here...

Not sure SWMBO will agree when I inform her of the 3 things I have now added to my shopping list!

You can get the grit guards off ebay for about £7 iirc and decent sized buckets from places like b&q for under a fiver if you need any- get light coloured ones so you can see when the water gets dirty. You've spent loads on a new car....makes sense to spend a few pounds to keep her looking good IMO.
