Limp Home Mode Problem

Featured Replies

Hi all

2007 Octavia TDi hatchback

Been a year or so now since the problem first appeared - driving happily along and limp Home mode kicked in. No idea what it was then so panic but eventually found out.

Nothing for several months then another limp home - seems to happen when accelerating in 5th or 6th

Then a period when limp home mode was accompanied by the exhaust inspection light which stayed on for 2 - 3 days. But that light no longer comes on.

My local garage had a look and said it the engine management unit was detecting excessive boost pressure but they did not know why and they did not have skoda specific diagnostic kit.

Seems odd to me 'cos I can accelerate hard in gears 1 - 3 which has to generate high levels of boost but I have to be really gentle in gear 6.

Any offers as to what it might be?

I'm reluctant to 'go with the computer' 'cos I had a bad BMW experience a few years back (£40 for the diagnostic; £200 for the repair and it made no difference at all!!)

Thanks for any ideas

There are plenty of posts on this website of people having various issues which seem similar to yours... couple of places to start would be the EGR valve and ANTISHUDDER needing cleaning as they can get coked up with crap and it buggers the ECU stats on acceleration so it has no idea how much fuel/air to be mixing.. Second would be the VNT vanes in the Turbo.. apparently common and there is a thread on here about using MR muscle to fix the problem.. has worked for a lot of people so worth considering..

then you could start looking at sensors.. there are so many that any one of them could start giving you issues (N75 or boost pressure regulator or something like that) is one thats known to cause problems as it regulates the boost pressure..

Ive not known of anyone on here with PD engines moaning that they have had to replace the ECU, could be wrong but I would be looking elsewhere first before considering that route, and better to get someone with VCDS to scan the car (plenty of helpful guys and girls on here have VCDS so have a look in the Diags section and see who is close to you then message them)

Oh 1 other thing to look at and prob best place to start, G450 pressure sensor!! if your car has a DPF filter, and this hasnt been replaced, then id lay money this is the start of that sensor failing... cheap to buy £60 or so, 30 mins to fit yourself, only hard part is getting someone with VCDS to do an adaptation then forced regen on the DPF...

I had this in my previous car (2.0 FSi)  when the back end was well loaded (i.e. passengers in the back) especially when it was on wet roads, and I suspect it thought the front end steering was too light then.

I used to quickly turn off the ignition and back on again and the problem had disappeared for a while.

Car traded in before I found out the underlying problem though.

ednmra Thanks, Sounds like the same symptoms. Pity you never found the solution!!

Dread1977: Thanks for that. I'll go have a look in diags and see if I can find a local.
