Lowering VRS Estate - Reduced load capacity?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking into dropping my Octy VRs Estate, probably just 20mm (Eibach pro-kit?) and was wondering what impact the reduced ride height will have on the load carrying capacity?

I play in a band so quite often cart around a fair amount of heavy gear, so while I would love improved handling and a 'nicer' look, I don't want to compromise the practicality of the estate.

Would I be right in thinking the enhanced stiffness of the springs will go some way to helping reduce the loss of load capacity?

Cheers,

Ian.

The eibach pro kit won't make any difference.  You'll be fine.

Mine is lowered using Skoda eibachs and carries 100kgs of dogs in the boot. And three kids in rear with no probs if this helps

Are the Skoda approved Eibachs the equivalent of the pro kit?

I think gearwise I'm usually carrying around 350-400kgs.

Awesome, I can feel a purchase coming on. Anything you'd recommend me changing along with the springs? I read top mounts somewhere, and have also seen mention of wheel spacers to improve the look of the rear wheels?

Dampers?

There's no need to replace anything as such, just that if you're pulling apart the car and you have some worn components in there it makes sense to replace them whilst the car is apart.   Personally i'd never just do the springs on their own - the OE dampers are average at best and a good quality set (e.g. bilsteins) will make a big difference, better ride, handling etc.

If your top mounts are worn then yes, this is a good time to replace them.
