Would this work with the MDI unit in my monty tech?

I don't know, probably not unless it was modified, as currently it needs the AC Power lead to power it.

I wouldn't even contemplate putting a mechanical HDD in a car, much better to use a SSD IMO.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I think you might want to revisit the price in light of what can be picked up easily brand new on the high street.

I was going to say the same thing, I picked up a 1TB one for under £45 on Amazon and it doesn't even need an additional power source, most of the modern ones don't either.
