Used Superb which one?

Featured Replies

First off i would like to say hi as this is my first post.

I have my eye on 2 used superbs, first one is a 2013 (13) elegance estate 170 dsg non facelift dont really need estate but looks better in my view, second one is a FL 2013 (13) elegance hatchback 140 dsg, there is about 700 quid difference in price with the FL being more expensive.

My question is to you owners is which would you choosee ? Is the FL a much different car over the older shape, is there a big diffrence in the engines ?

Thanks for any advice.

Welcome

Personally I would take a 170 estate over a 140 twin hatch every day of the week even if it was the FL

The changes are purely cosmetic, I prefer the front of the FL and the rear of the pre FL!

If it were me I'd take the estate, but that's because:

a. its prettier

b. it's more practical for no bigger footprint on the road

c. the 170 is by all accounts not much thirstier than the 140 in the real world, even with stop/start, but more drivable (if a tad less smooth). However if the FL has stop/start it will be in a lower tax bracket

d. I think the estates depreciate a little bit less than the hatches, so even though it may use a bit more fuel in a couple of years you will save a bit more as well as the original £700 difference

e. it's prettier

Thanks

I was airing on the side of the estate, what about values in about 3yrs is the FL going to be worth much more ?

When Skoda introduced their offer of VAT free purchase price on the Superb range, it was on everything except the diesel estates. So I would say get the diesel estate.

Drive them both. Then buy the 170 :)

Had the new audi a6 estate 2.0 177 black edition as a company vehicle in my last job before I left, is that the same engine ? If so that was a sweet engine.

I've got a 140, I'd take the 170 if I was you

Deposit left on march 2013 (13) superb combi dsg 170 elegance :-) paid 18490 with 12 months tax and was given top price part exchange for my car, dealer said he was selling the car at a loss which I believe may be the truth. To be honest not even seen the car only in pictures but he said its mint and just had 2 tyres and service last week.

I Did have a superb on hire for 2 days which made me consider it as the family car due to being so impressed with the quality and sheer size as both my sons are almost 6ft and still growing!

Looking forward to picking it up next week and the 100 mile drive back home.

You bought at car without even seeing it??

There are loads of DSG 170 estates on Autotrader for 19k. If it needed new tyres, it must have quite some miles on it. A dealer will never sell such a popular car (I don't think theres a more popular Superb than the 170 DSG Elegance Estate) at a loss. Or any, really. To also sell you one unseen, wow.

14800 miles so not many at all, likes most dealers they will change tyres if they get down to around 3mm. Its a skoda main dealer and he may or may not be making a profit, dealers do sell at cost or a loss to meet targets I will never know for sure but the price for me is very good, I have no reason to disbelieve him when he says its immaculate condition, it is afterall just a year old. If the car is damaged or anything like that then I will not accept it but I doubt that will be the case.

deposit left and payment will be made when i go to collect, if not as stated then no payment simples!! and deposit made on the agreement the car is as described, I have purchased 4 brand new cars in the past and never saw them until the day of collection either...

Just something I've never heard of - by the time I get my hands on a Superb, I'll be on car #51. And I looked at all of the previous ones, drove them, etc. before making any kind of deposit.

I have drove one that I had on hire for 2 days, same model and spec, I wouldn't have put a deposit down on an older higher mileage car without seeing it but a car just a year old with low miles I thought it was worth the small risk. The car is well priced in my opinion and as the deposit left is small, plus the email agreement that if not as described I will get it back so not really a risk at all. I know there are quite a few for sale around 19000 upwards mark but this is cheaper so if alls well ive saved 500 minimum.

A friend of mine owns a VW franchise, they sell many cars via the internet, deposit paid, check out on arrival. Some are driven to 'purchasers'. Very few are rejected. Quite common practice. Having said that, I would prefer to see a vehicle. Individual's choice.

Picked up my skoda today and as stated car is in immaculate condition, nice 100 mile drive home taking in town drivihg A, B and motorway driving, the car drove great a real good motorway cruiser, now I am wishing I had looked at skoda much earlier they appear to be a hidden gem if you can bring yourself past the old skoda reputation.

So you went for the 170 Estate in the end then? Sounds good.

Yeah but that was a late night eBay thing though?!

I ordered my Superb without even the hint of test drive in any Superb of any kind. Spec'd it and they delivered.
