Car PC

Featured Replies

Has anyone got a PC running in their Furby?

I might be looking at a Car PC as an alternative to a full audio setup (still deciding), and seeing as I'm a car audio virgin and know very little about car electronics I'd ask around at people's problems etc.

My main worry is the battery, will I be needing some huge cap or a new alternator to run the thing?

Also, I'm an OS snob and I want to get a Mac in my car, so the easy way of building a PC is scratched. I'm looking at the Mac Mini paired with a Motorised DIN touchscreen.

Any suggestions or help? even if it's "Don't bother, mate"?

Cheers.

Be convenient for VAG-COM if nothing else :D:rofl: :P

I'm still trying to get mine working - there's a few details on my website (link below)

Any info I can give that might help, let me know.

Cheers Rob. I've been researching and it all seems possible at least. Just a major chop and hack job at a lot of trim etc.

I'm sorely tempted to do it - to have more than the run-of-the-mill aftermarket HU.

Just a bit scared about customising the bits of car...

Only hacking I have done is to the foam spacer next to the wheel, everything else has been gentle easing and clip on mounts.

If your brave you can easily bypass the need for the HU.

Double open Din socket for storage of bits or a funky slide in out screen. Personally I just clip mine on when I want it.

It's nowehre near as touchy feely sensation as a hu though, so bewarned when trying to skip tracks or turn the sound up and down while driving.

Takes a bit of getting used to, but what new toy does not.
