2.0 Engine juddering under load

Hi,

I bought a 2006 2.0 TDI Octavia with 140k on the clock. On the test drive she was perfect.

However once I took her over a 20 minute journey, I realised there was a problem.

 

Car starts fine with a bit of white smoke from cold,but goes away after 20/30 seconds. On idle there is a noticeable vibration through the car. Not a serious one, but not normal. Car drives with no issues for the next 15 – 20 mins until she heats up. Then she develops a very noticeable judder under load / going up hills / accelerating in high gears.

 

For example:  if I am cruising at 60mph and accelerate in high gear, a very violent noticeable judder goes through the entire car. Usually 1900-2500 revs. Once I change down gear to higher rev range, she will power through with no issues. If I thrash the the car, there is no judder.

 

I took it to the mechanic. So far its got a new Clutch and Flywheel, a new MAF sensor, new timing belt, new wiring loom for the injectors and a full service. She is not showing up anything on the diagnostics. The mechanic is scratching his head as to what it is.

 

Anyone had similar problems or any ideas?

I've had a few problems with these 2.0 TDI's with oil in the fuel have you changed the fuel filter??

Sometimes fuel leaks inside the tandam pump and mixes with the oil? Might be worth looking down this route if it has not been looked at?

When the cambelt was done was it timed using the proper timing pins etc??

Fuel filter has been changed and car fully serviced.

 

As for the Cambelt, I am not sure. I would expect the mechanic to be decent enough and set it correctly.

Might be worth asking about the timing of the belt as I've had the inlet cam not timed correctly due to not using timing pins and that causes juddering under load.

When the fuel filter was changed do you no if the fuel was in bad condition ie had oil etc?

I'll say to him about the timing pins, although the judder was there before I got the new timing belt put on. He didn't say anything about the fuel filter but I had explained the smoking issue to him in the morning, so would like to think he was looking at the oil and fuel.

Does it sound like an inner cv joint to you? Reading another forum and seemed to fix a similar problem?

Has it been mapped? You get this on mapped car to much torque for the dmf at lower rpm.

Sounds like your dual mass flywheel is on its way out. Do a search for DMF problems on here and you'll find there have been plenty of examples of what you describe.

I see from your post that the clutch & flywheel have been changed but from what you describe, it's usually symptomatic of a failing DMF.

DMF replace, MAF senson replace, EGR cleared out, injectors tested with no issues.....
