22 faults out of nowhere. All lights related......help!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Bought a 58 plate Superb 2 last Friday with 22,500 miles on and in great condition, like new inside. It had previously been owned by a disabled man hence the low mileage. All was fine this week and I have been loving the car. I parked up as usual this morning went to work, came back and suddenly I have a light on the dashboard warning me of a bulb and 22 warnings ranging from Dipped beam, left and right brake lights, indicators etc and the indicators now flash really fast with the noise inside the car annoying. I have been advised by a member here it could be an earth issue but what else could it be and has anyone else experienced anything similar? I know I will have to take it back to the garage for fixing but I would like to be armed with information.

Please help, I would be very grateful.

It could be an earth problem but my first thought was that failing batteries can cause strange things to happen like this. If it is the original battery it is upwards of 5 years old so definitely a possibility especially if it has been sat on a forecourt for a bit.

Ok so the faults suddenly vanished this morning but after a walk round Horsham Twon Centre for 3 hours I come back to my car and I get a momentary flash of 'engine Management' which then vanished. Car seems fine but the mystery continues.........!

As Adamal already mentioned: It really sounds like a battery problem. Did you already have your battery checked? Next possibility is an earth problem.

Another vote for battery, the electronics are sensitive and a small drop in voltage can cause all kinds of weird things.

Get the car scanned with VCDS and you'll most likely see low voltage faults.

Sounds like what happened with my Octavia when about 3 tablespoons of washer fluid leaked onto the earth point in the left side of the boot when a connection in the washer pipe popped open a few years ago. Not even enough liquid to reach the carpet and give any clue as to there being a leak but the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree, it turned off the ABS system and the engine wouldn't shut off when I took the key out... A couple of sheets of kitchen paper to soak it up, spray of WD40 and silicone grease on the earth point before putting it back together and the problem disappeared. I reconnected the washer pipe with teflon tape to tighten it up and cleared the washer nozzle with a pin to fix the source of the problem too of course...

So if your rear washer still works as normal then you can rule this one out, if not that'll be the problem. The battery seems to have been underspecced on certain Superbs too, so it's another definite possibility, especially at that age.

Another vote here for the battery.

23,000 miles in 5 years is also worrying from a DPF perspective, but less so if the 170 in the early Superb's are CR and not PD.
