Four wheel drive?

Featured Replies

As the title says? Can you convert a vrs to 4wd? What's people's idea's?

I had the thought when I saw a 4motion golf at work yesterday, and realised why haven't Skoda done a 4wd vrs? Too much hassle or what? Considering Skoda is owned by VW??

Let me hear your idea's or gas someone already done it??

It is possible if jabba sports will do one but its verry expensive because you have to have a different floor plan it will cost more than 10g to get it fitted as well

Ive been thinking about it as well alot of work has to go in to it as well but in the long run it would be fab :)

It's been covered on here before, it would be easiest just to say give the idea a miss.

Easier to find an Audi A3 quattro Sport 140.

That's a new phrase to me ^^^^

The Fabia base is smaller than the golf, so extensive fabrication will need to take place

As said though there's nothing 4WD that uses the Fabia/Polo/Ibiza body shell so you'd need to probably get a Quattro A3 or 4Motion Golf drivetrain and extensively modify it to fit.

Is their any need for it??

I wish I lived closer to the OP.

From Wikipedia:

Large areas of Devon are unexplored by scientists and anthropologists. Indigenous people in the Colyton area are generally contacted in the sense that local authorities know they are there, but many remain pre-literate and out of reach of modern medicine and technology, and at the national or international level, the names of these communities and information about them may be extremely hard to obtain due to their inherent hostility to the outside world and its social norms.

It is possible but a lot of work, if I remember rightly Richard started to build one using a fabia rally cross as a donor and template, however I do not think it was finished!

Is it possible... yes.

Is it easy... no.

Put simply you need to fabricate a rear cage for the diff that you can also hang the suspension off as stock vRS rear suspension is not suitable.

Plus you need to move stuff around as the propshaft will go right through the fuel tank.

Then you have to look at the width of the car as I believe all AWD/4x4 VW products (other than possibly the new Audi S1) have a wider track, which means you need to get the rear shafts shortened.

In short it's a very big job.

You can pay someone, which including a donor vehicle (Audi TT most likely) will cost around £10,000 or so or do it yourself.  But it's a major headache unless you really know what you are doing.

I know this as I actually looked at doing a 4x4 Fabia two years ago, but changed my mind and started a 4x4 Citigo instead.

By the way, you can buy a lot of the parts you'll need from the Czech Republic where there are companies that build the Rallycross cars (and used to make the old mk1 Fabia Cup cars) which are 4x4 so they have all the bits.

But the prices are generally eye watering.

Exactly.

I bought a 4x4 Rallycross Fabia over from the Czech Republic but then the new Citigo model came out that was around 300kg lighter than the Fabia...

I sold the Rallycross Fabia to a guy from Austria that has competed in it with good success.

I have a diff/haldex and rear subframe off a MK 4 Golf with suspension arms and drive shafts, if you are going to do it let me know.

A bit extreme but it has been done as said above.
