Misfire after cold start

Featured Replies

It maybe needs to get put on the Diagnostics, and have the Engine

& importantly the DSG checked out.

Does not sound good, or as should be.

Do you pull the hand brake on a little bit for a few yards on start off to get the cosmetic rust off the rear discs when heading off.?

I do.

No need to use any oil other than maybe a little while running in,

it is a CTHE you have.

Yes its a CTHE, was new January this year, now on 1800 miles, yes I drag hand brake to clean discs when setting off but the discs all round are always dake blue from heat, it really needs drilled discs or big brake setup or bothe with braided lines to help firm the pedal up.

Update: Since having my plugs changed I have now found that I have an obvious misfire every time the car is started from cold. The idle is not obviously lumpy but when I move off and apply some throttle, the car sounds a little rough and the pull is not smooth. Once the car reaches 2K rpm it smoothens out and if I go off the throttle and then back on the car performs smooth as ever.

The plugs fitted were the revised VW ones. I find it weird that my 30k old plugs performed better than brand new ones?? I'm thinking that the new plugs don't like cold starts with a TMC box.

Take box off or set it to "off" setting and see if there's a difference amd you will see if TMC has anything to do with it. Do you have an OBD2 bluetooth or wifi dongle and a phone app to read some engine vitals? That would give you a better idea as to what might be causing your problems, obviously wi4rh TMC off :)

It's a weird one, the variable is the plugs, not the TMC box. Never had any issues with my old plugs and the TMC box fitted. I don't have anything like that but I do fancy getting one.

sounds a lot like my car, they've changed the plugs and it isn't as bad but its still there when you initially pull away so im thinking it is something to do with plugs its just theyve either fitted the wrong ones or something else plug related?

Yeah I'm thinking it's the plugs. It's almost like they take a while to get up to temperature to create consistent ignition.

Your car standard?

yes totally standard, im gonna contact the dealer soon to see whats next

The basics of diagnostics is to take all the mods, additions, changes off the motor to have less variables me thinks, hence suggestion.

As for the monitoring, DashCommand (http://www.palmerperformance.com/products/dashcommand/) is my fav and you can get a dongle for peanuts from the bay of E - I got WiFi one for iPhone but I heard Bluetooth ones are better for Android?

When you get the plugs out take photos of them and note down the part numbers plz.

Quite simply you can have the Diagnostics plugged in, and have a misfire on a cylinder when under load with a failing Spark Plug or Coil.

Yet on Supercharger sitting with the engine revved in the Workshop nothing shows.

You can have no Error Codes, and yet you remove the plugs and one has been arcing or is just about to expire.
