vRS and S3

Featured Replies

S3 is faster, seems more nimble, better traction obviously....... sound system better,

Thanks for sharing the photos of both cars, both great vehicles IMO. Can I ask, in the S3, did you go for the £750 B&O option? If so, what are your thought on it? I've heard most of the decent systems on the market but an S3 with the newer B&O setup has so far eluded me! I love the £6k A6 setup but was very disappointed with the (admittedly far cheaper) A4 setup.

  • He's got an S3 too!     Nice car, wants to show it off.  Simple.

  • Same way you sleep with your mortgage I guess...if you can afford it, its not a problem.

  • Not really. It started with pics on an S3 in the Octavia mk3 section and we've been discussing toys and fast Audis (and competitors) ever since.

I think it was mentioned already, but are they the same wheels?

A few people had asked me to post up both cars hence why one thread more sense. Sorry to those that it offended.

Thanks yeti_man they are both nice in very different ways. Yes the B&O was one that got thrown in :) it's a good system and goes loud but stays crisp and clear. Like canton, needs run in tho. I had the B&O in the A5, it was good but seemed to vary from car to car as loaners I had at servicing seemed very different.

The A3 upgrade is better tho really does perform well to my taste

Sorry to those that it offended.

Hardly! (if aimed at me :) ). I just thought I might have been missing out on some part of the story.

Anyway, the S3 looks amazing! Interesting to see they're pretty affordable, too.

No not at all, just saved me doing two posts

S3 looks great in grey, are the wheels an anthracite finish too?

Have to say id rather an S3 over a Golf R any day of the week; in sportback form betting its a little more practical and the R is just poor value for money IMHO by comparison.

Only thing I feel is a bit of a shame (but can understand why VAG didnt do it) is that they didnt stick the 310ps version of the 2.5 5 pot in the S3 & R (as per the RS Q3); tiny bit more power, more torque and a little bit more interesting than a heavily boosted 4 pot....nothing like as clean or efficient though.

Because an S model isn't allowed to compete with an RS model.

It's all about image, branding and profit margins.

If you take the RRP as a stand alone figure then the Golf if poor value, however there are fantastic deals to be had & make it better value than the S3.

I've just ordered a new lapiz blue Golf R on -

£1539 deposit & 23 x £264 which includes full maintenance, servicing, RFL & unlimited tyres :)

I'm coming from a S4 so love my S cars, and the S3 if a fine motor (love the look of yours Kenny), but the best deals at the moment are on the Golf R. Just look beyond the ludicrous price tag :)

Yea wheels are an anthracite colour with cut rim and spokes. V similar to the vRS ones

The s3 is a nicer car to my taste, I'm sure others will think differently tho. Each to their own

Yeah I'm with you on the 5pot but as rightly said have to hold it back for the RS. The s-Tronic is already 4.8 to 60. Any more power would really tread in the toes of the RS sadly

I have those S3 design wheels in 21 inch on my SQ5. They are awesome, but I have to say I was upset when the exclusivity of the design was lost being available in 18 inch on the S3 now.

I'm about to chop the SQ5 in for an S1 and have a VRS TDI Estate coming July-ish so my drive will look pretty similar to yours!

Good choices mate :) out of interest what's the SQ5 like?

It's a beast! It's by far the best all round car I can find for performance/practicality/looks/quality - only downside is the cost!

Best bit is, to the casual observer it looks like another school run Q5, but then it pulls away and you hear it, and the guy in his Porsche gets embarrassed  :giggle:

The cost is the main reason I am getting rid, while I love it, once the other halves VRS comes I can go back to a smaller, nippy fun thing at half the price.

Here's a vid I made to show the sound and my fav pic I have taken to date (I'm a bit of a car photo nut!);

.the SQ5 sounds very good but as for embarrassing a Porsche - dependent on which Porsche of course....a base Boxster maybe, any 911 definitely not!!

Boxter easy, standard 911 (not an S or Turbo) its VERY close. But given they usually aren't expecting it so 'give you a chance', then realise as you pull away that it's an SUV with sub 5 second 0-60 times and have to try and catch up, they lose! Also - on the move, the immediate torque (650nm!!) out drags anything from a rolling start.

TBH - just the fact that you almost keep up with any super car usually ****es them off!

Looks and sounds awesome!! Look fwd to seeing the S1

That I will grant you, a bit of a rocket powered shed (no insult intended ) but make no mistake any modern Porsche, particularly when fitted with the PDK double clutch transmission is devastatingly quick, even the latest Boxster / Cayman S. A 911, any 911 the acceleration is instantaneous. I did get a drive in the latest turbo S last week and that is one incredible car, in a totally different performance league to anything else I've ever experienced, truly an amazing piece of engineering.

Out of interest, what spec did you go for?

I'm assuming that's a pcp or lease so after 2 years the cars still going to be worth a fair bob,...mileage per annum?

Oh I realise in an out and out drag (or any other kind of, for example track) race any 911 will win - and I've driven my fair share of 997's and the 991 so know they are insanely fast machines, but in real world scenarios, more of the SQ5's power is available more of the time. Making a 911 achieve it's potential 0-60 requires a decent driver and/or some preparation at the line (manual vs PDK), in the SQ5 you just go (it does have LC as well BTW, which the first time I used I was scared! Shed's shouldn't move that fast!). I was actually thinking about a 997 4S to replace the SQ5, but its just a bit too impractical, and the running costs are kinda high!

I also thought about the new RS6 - now THAT is a fast shed! I nearly rear ended the first person I overtook as I wasn't expecting it to lurch forward so fast!

5door manual on Lapiz blue & 11000 miles per year.

The Golf R comes pretty well spec'd already. Apart from the obvious it also has ACC & folding mirrors as standard both things I would have to spec on a vRS. For this reason I left the leather & sat nav out, as they really bump up the price of a lease.

If you wanted a bargain, a 3 door Red Golf R (10,000 miles / year) with full maintenance, servicing, RFL, & tyres, I was quoted £1470 deposit & 23 x £245.

Taking into account you are getting 2 years servicing costs, approx. 2 x 2 tyres, 2 x years RFL, 2 x years breakdown. On the back of a fag packet, I make that approximately £800-£1000 before you even take into consideration of the use of a £32k car for 2 years. I think that's a bargain :)

Seriously??!! I pay just under 300 notes a month over 42 months for my Octavia and thought that was reasonable value for money; albeit only a £500 deposit. Ive obviously not shopped hard enough!!

Just a regular PCP and not a business lease I assume?

Surely must be plus VAT on that??

seriously!!

Yep, personal lease (all inc. Vat).

The odd thing with this particular deal was that the 24 month deal was much cheaper than the 36/48 month deal. Not very often that happens.

I asked whether it had been sponsored by VW and the sales rep said it was cheap based purely on residuals. I wish someone would tell the VW main dealer that, because they point blank refused to go under £420 / month.

Still doesn't add up, must be a huge RV at 2 years on that, over £20k, plus it also includes maintenance etc??

I'd get it in writing that it does include VAT,..or just get it in writing as that is a flipping good deal!

Which company is offering this?

It's a lease rather than a PCP so different kettle of fish. Cracking deal though - there is a fairly substantial thread on pistonheads but these deals are now ended I think.

Lovely cars!

Yes, but what is the final "balloon" payment? That's what would make the big difference to the monthly repayments! The higher the final GFV the less deposit (equity) you have come change time,
