Vibration at 80mph in 6th?

Featured Replies

When accelerating on the motorway I've noticed a slight vibration through the steering wheel between 80-85ish, does anyone have a similar issue. The vibration is only just noticeable and intermittant but it only happens in 6th. Also I've noticed that the shift into 6th can but a bit iffy and can jump out.

Vibrations may just be down to the road surface. I do get this on a particular stretch of road myself.

As for the chaging into sixth, havent experienced any problems myself. (touch wood  )

Might just be worth getting your wheel balancing checked out as it might just be one of the balancing weights has fallen off :D I used to experience poor balancing regularly when I used to trust the monkeys at our local big tyre-fitters to do it. To say they made a bit of a dog's breakfast of it is an understatement ;)

damn beaten too it, I was about to say wheel balance. :)

third vote for wheel balancing - ONly usually shows up at a certain speed gap, and often on a certain road surface too. Had a really bad rear wheel shake on the recently departed cavvy from 70-80mph! Felt like the car was going to break up! :D

A four wheel alignment check would be good, and get the tyre place to spin up the front wheels on one of their balancing machines, while you're there

Hi

If the engine mounts (or damping devices) are spit or worn, this can lead to oscillation on some cars. If it is bad enough, it could pull the car out of gear as the engine / gearbox assembly moves about.

Apart from the obvious wheel balance, also check lower arm bushes and driveshafts for excessive wear or play as these can also lead to vibration.

PS anyone know if on car balancing is OK on Fabia vRS fronts?

Is it a vibration felt through the steering wheel or the car?

Sorry the car is a '05 Fabia vRS, completely standard. The vibration is very light through the steering wheel and isn't felt in the car. Also it only occurs when accelerating not when crusing at the same speed so I think it's not wheel balancing. Any ideas?
