Autoglym?

Featured Replies

I know there are better products available before the snobs start but had to take advantage of the recent Halfords 3 for two offer:

I purchased 3 Packs of Autoglym Perfect Bodywork Kit

Each Pack Containing:

  • Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner 325ml
  • Super Resin Polish 325ml
  • Extra Gloss Protection 325ml

Also got 3 packs of  2 x large MF Cloths & 3 x wash mits all for the princely some of £30 Inc free delivery.

Therefore my question is do I still wax after the EGP sealer has cured?

My new routine will be unless advised otherwise:

1. Snowfoam pre wash with Magifoam original.

2. very Cherry wheel cleaner

3. Shampoo with AG Shampoo

4. Polish if required with SRP

5. coat with EGP

6. then collinite 845 or 476 on the top. (inc wheels)

Scribs that routine looks spot on.

There is nothing wrong with Autoglym, decent shampoo and everyone should have a bottle of SRP in their locker, the new formula stuff is a belting all in one polish that covers a multitude of sins. I have a couple of friends that swear by EGP too. Topped with Colly you should have a nice look with strong durability.

All good

I picked up a pack of this as well, having seen it on HUKD. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Yeah I saw it on HUKD aswell for £10 but had to combine it with the 3 for 2 offer to maximise the reward ratio. ;-)

I bet they sold thousands its a cracking price.

That's exactly what im after longevity and durability. Im not too concerned with the wet look shine more staying clean for longer.

845 is a wetter finish to 476 but good ol' double coat should last longer according to many.

Yup and both are cracking!

+1

Pray tell...what on earth is `HUKD?

Many thanks.

A source of many bargains (or much expenditure depending on your point of view).

Don't do it! your life will have added frustration of always getting to said bargain only to find out of stock, limited sizes available etc. or you will purchase lots of stuff you don't really need just because its a bargain. The annoying thing is because it now has so many bargain hunters on there as soon as something is listed as a pricing error or a bargain it sells out or the error gets fixed before you get chance to make a purchase. And I have started to wonder would I have potentially stumbled across the bargain and it still been valid had it not been listed on HUKD,. AAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Example I once had a code that gave 30% off any product on Eurocarparts including the performance sister site they had. Made the mistake of posting on HUKD everyone practically crashed the site and Eurocarparts fixed the problem and now I can't get the discount anymore should have kept quiet.

Thank you, both.

Regards

Mike.

I'd suggest putting collinite over egp is an optional step, by no means essential!

Quick queation i have 3 applicator pads for the variois products. One is black foam one is shallow pile MF and the other is deep soft MF. Which should you use for which product? Does anyone use the foam ones?

I hope I'm not being snobby...LOL

Looks fine but I would leave it a good few hours (Overnight) before you put Collinite over the EGP due to the heavy solvents in the Collinite and the delicacy of the sealant

I have a vast array of AG stuff - most of it comes in handy at some point, so there is no "ewww, that's from Halfords" from me!  :D

I would treat the foam applicator as your wax applicator and the mf ones to get a touch more cut from your polish.

Also im about to get some free samples of pure Montan Wax or Lignite wax as its sometimes called for testing purposes. It comes from Germany do any of you have any experience of this compared to carnauba wax and do you know what grade I should ask for? Its not blended with anything else but it is available in various grades each have unique properties. I obviously want the one that's easy to apply and suitable for car surfaces. I know it tends to make paint colours appear darker but also its claimed has better longevity and water repellence than pure carnauba.

Yeah sorry Chris I should have said I'd already ready up on it prior to requesting a sample I know what its generic properties are when compared to carnauba etc but it comes even in its raw state in various grades that have different application uses 6175 for example. Im being asked which grade I need.

TBH...Ive never heard of it before today

Do you just want to be different or experimenting?

You have heard of the expression curiosity killed the cat? well that's me I like testing. I work in R&D so this could have some practical real world application in some of our products but if it has the side effect of better protection for my car paintwork at Zero cost then win, win!

Its effectively a vegetable based wax like carnauba but its been fossilised for a few million years. Giving it a harder finish and thus better hydrophobic properties more longevity and a higher boiling point although this has no bearing on what I want it for.

I will probably end up wrecking my paint work in the process but I have two cars ill try it on the oldest one first. ;-)

Is this not more of an ingredient than a ready to use wax?

Just like carnauba I fear you will find this needs to be blended with other ingredients to make a functional car wax. Solid carnauba is useless as a car wax, it needs amongst other things a formula of solvents to make it usable in car care.

That is assuming you aren't planning to make a home brew wax

I am actually planning get it blended by another company with some synthetic sealers and hopefully produce a liquid that can be sprayed via a standard atomiser bottle. However im not sure what grade of base wax I need.

You will need such a low wax content to make it sprayable, that it will reduce its effectiveness completely

The way to go, I would of thought, would be a hard paste wax format
