thinking of an octy vrs but...

Featured Replies

the one I have been to look at has a K and N filter on it. does this make the car sound a bit like the dump valve noise, and like an asthmatic smoker when its floored?

If it is normal for that to happen then i might just buy it and remove it and go back to standard.

Cheers in advance

Dan

If its a k&n cone filter then yes. You can here the turbo spooling a lot more and then the the dump (woosh) from the dv.

Don't let a K&N put you off a car, especially if it's been well looked after, it can easily be changed.

You will be enjoying the car that much on the way home you would of forgot about it.

Do it you wont regret it... best car ive owned so far :) keep k&n just heat shield it from engine and smile when you put your right foot down

Shields are cheap on eBay so don't let it put you off.

Why? If you want MP3 capabilities fair enough, but there should be a 6 disc CD stacker in the LH side of the boot, behind the trim panel and just above the rear washer pipe.

For that reason yes, I mainly use my mp3 player in the car. Plus i believe i can get a better sound from it with an after market head unit and door speakers

If changing door speakers be careful not to damage the membranes., else you will join the flooded foot well owners club,!!!

Good price! No Service history?

lol ok mac, I will be changing the door speakers if I can find out the correct depth for them on here. But i'll be sure not to join that particular club. Also a future investment in a sub of some kind in the boot, as it is an estate I can afford to lose a bit of space . I like a good sound system, well, good but cheap really, not ****e, not awesome....if you get me

It has full service history dealer stamped in the book with some receipts, it just wasn't on the advert.

Rip it out in a heartbeat. The standard setup has absolutely no punch or headroom. Horrible spongy compressed audio. Useless head unit. Ugh!

Welcome to the VRS club.

Good deal too.

Don't look at Rob's build thread as you will be spending large :giggle:

Oh, and don't waste money on upgrade 4X6"s for the rear of the Estate. Even so called upgrade ones are pretty crap. My Rockford Fosgates were a waste of money and effort. Had to do a bit of creative filling to get the to seal to the spacers from the front, and it wasn't worth the bother. The standard speakers were pants, but these aren't really much better.

Decent front speakers though are essential. But still not as crucial as replacing the crappy head unit.

Mine doesnt sound too bad with just a small 8" compact sub in the back.  Couldnt be bothered with all the other speakers and changing headunit

Best upgrade is new head unit and unplug the tweeters in the front and rear, will sound better straight away while you decide on front door speakers etc. I'm running 2 Rockford fosgate 10" punch subs in a ported box sounds awesome.

That's my next plan of action Chris , how do you get to the tweeters ? Do you need to remove the door cards ? Forgive me if I sound like a Jong but haven't had the car long and I'm not too blessed in the DIY department . Cheers

Unplug the tweeters in the FRONT? That will sound terrible. Unless your ears have a cutoff frequency of around 5kHz, then everything sounds terrible regardless...

The tweeters have their own grille panels. The fronts on the pillars that just pull off, and the rears in the doors by the handle, and also just pull off/unclip.

The front panels have a habit of breaking the clips though.
