Anyone changed the lower engine mount/bush on a 1.6crdi to an uprated one?

Featured Replies

I seem to have quite a lot of engine rocking movement in my Monte, and I don't want to replace the lower rubber bush with another OEM one if I can help it, as this has lost all of its integrity in just 15k....

I know SuperPro do some, but I was wondering whether anyone on here has already fitted one to their 1.6crdi?   If so, can you give some feedback please?

Thanks,

Hi steve, please could you link me to the mount you are referring to? I have had a look on their website and cant find anything.

I have changed this mount to an uprated one on a different car and it made a huge difference, better off the line, no wheel hop under harsh acceleration etc.. I would do it to every car i own in the future if one was available...!

Matthew,

From what I can see, this will fit:  http://www.priracing.com/product.php/2595/485/vw-polo-9n--ibiza-mk4---fabia-engine-mount-steady--dog-bone--bush-kit

However, I think the '70' shore rating will be too stiff for a diesel, and many of the accounts I have read state that whilst it is excellent when on the move, it's terrible when stationary/tickover....

I understand that Powerflex made a '65' shore rated mount which is much kinder to the occupants on tickover whilst maintaining nearly all of the plus points of the SuperPro once on the move.... The part number for this Powerflex bush is:  PFF85-620R

http://www.powerflex.co.uk/road-series/products/Fabia+5J+%282008-%29-2783/1.html

I might just take a punt on it and see what it's like...

IMO i dont think it would make that much of a difference but i would go for the powerflex bush.

Whats the deal with these bushes, usually you get a whole mount not just a bush, would this require the old bush pressing out and the new harder one pressing in??

The difference between the SuperPro '70' shore and the Powerflex '65' shore has been described as "night and day"....in favour of the Powerflex.

I spent years with my old gt30 powered vRS Octavia running a '90' shore race dog bone mount and vibratechnics engine/gearbox mounts....I fancy a little more comfort these days in the 'commuter/shopping car'!

This will be the individual bush, I would need to remove the mount and refit the new one myself.   For the sake of £34 I'll give it a go.

Let me know how you get on,

as i asked would this bush need pressing out?

I'll probably go for the powerflex bush in all honesty.

You could press or drill the old one out

Iv done a similar thing in the past, but on a civic.

They can be a right pain to get out (18 year old car though). It eventually came with lots of heat and various techniques

The new one pushed in (obviously softer, but was an updated one) quite nicely using a specially designed tool which pushes the bush and grips onto the otherside metal on the car.

Was abit of a pain, a few sweary moments, but it got there eventually

Should be a tad easier on a newer car though id imagine

Sorry to restart an old post but did this make a noticable difference?

It was my mates car so i havant driven it myself.

He reckons it did but then its difficult to say as the old bushes were completely knackered and had been degrading for some time.

I cant remember what make the new ones were, but they were uprated performance type ones.
