I've got a leaking condensor on the Octavia 2006, BXE engine. Can get a replacement unit for about £150, but just wondered are there any pitfalls in fitting? In particular, do I need to stock up on any seals or O-rings or bolts etc.for reassembly.

I would have thought diy fitting wouldn't really be practical as there's the gas to consider.

If you take it to a specialist they'll probably have all the parts required to refit the replacement condenser and if the gas has already leaked beyond being recycled then maybe you could save a few pounds by removing the old condenser first, but ask a specialist before you go detaching bits.

Not that I'm looking to have a leaky condenser myself, inevitable as it's pretty shot, but I am curious to see if a liberal application of epoxy resin or other spray type leak sealer would be any good to get a few more miles out of it.

If you can get the local garage to remove the gas for you (its illegal and very dangerous to do yourself) then a DIY fit is possible. My neighbour did mine with me giving him a hand. It was almost a very simple job but there wasn't quite the room to get it out so needed to take off a few more parts. Once connected then it was just a case of getting it all charged up.
