Dealerships

Just a quick question but is it normal for dealerships to advertise a car for sale that they're due to take as part exchange against a new car but with no actual date of when it will be available??

Yes!

Yes!

that seems like a very curt and short answer for you, George   Care to elaborate any more please?

Think they advertise them as ' Coming Soon " (  but not me   :(  )

They will just be garnering interest ahead of the arrival of the car.

That way it should sell quicker & have their money tied up for less time :)

Just seems like strange practice to advertise something you don't actually have. I mean, if someone has ordered a Skoda, they could be waiting for 6 months to actually have the part-ex car in and anyone buying second hand wouldn't wait that long for what could be a nail.

Swings & roundabouts.

Imagine you were looking for a specific model & couldn't find it, so bought something else instead.

Only to find out a week later the perfect car advertised at a dealership. Even worse they had known about it for weeks.

Think you may well of appreciated a heads up then?

True, it is hit and miss with what's best.

Cheers for the input. :)

Thats like when you see 'pictures to follow' on the adverts

I might sell a tv that i haven't bought yet but will get it in the next few months. :D

Your question was, is it normal practice?  and for some it is.

and it works perfectly well, that is  why they do it.

Currently lots of vehicles are advertised at prices that are an attraction. and the cars are already sold,

or they may have a whole load of them arriving, ex Mobility, Ex Fleet, Ex Lease.

The country is full of new, ex demonstrators, cancled orders, used vehicles for sale.

They are in the business of selling them, getting people to pay deposits and take finance,

all is fair in the car trade, if some practices annoy, use someone else to buy from.

Lots of people make a living on Ebay advertising things they do not own and when they sell it,

they go buy it to deliver.

& some that do well buy nice cars from the proceeds of their ability to sell for more than they buy for.

Commerce.

It is just like buying a new car that the dealership hasn't got yet.
