Key holes on the side of all doors

Featured Replies

does anyone know what the key holes on the side of each door are for?

they are covered with a small plastic and once u remove it, you can turn it with the key. it will sound like locking it.

i m not talking about the kids safety hole on the rear doors.

if you open any door, you will see the one i m talking about right on the side of the door.

I just looked at my car, there plastic covers when you take them off there is like a plastic thing behind them probably part of the door cards.  They do have what looks like a key slot in the plastic/rubber cover.

just thought it may be there for some kind of lubrication or when they put wax stuff in door for waterproofing.  The other 2 plugs Star screwdriver must be for the locks

if you put your key, you can actuallu turn it (it returns to the original place) and it sounds like it's locking.

OK I've read the manual pages and see how it works But why the hell would you want to use it and what for  ??????????   I just can't figure it out.

Slightly off topic can anyone tell me if the Rapid has automatic door locking  ie does it lock all doors after 25 yards or whatever  to protect against traffic light mugging.

I rented a Kia Venga the other day and the clatter it made when the doors locked themselves was startling---and reassuring.

I've never heard the Rapid lock its doors---I would like it to.

My Toledo auto locks the doors at a certain speed so I assume the Rapid does the same.

Thanks for that Kinetic.  How do you know? , how can I tell?,  It makes no noise of doors locking.   Has my auto locking cancelled itself?

Any further info I will be grateful.

Auto locking will need to be enabled using VCDS or by your local dealer, its probably off by default.

It might be something that's only fitted or enabled by default in certain regions? Mine auto locks the doors above a certain speed, there'll be a button on the centre console you can use to lock/unlock the doors which will light up when the doors are locked.

Mine also locks all doors and I guess boot once you have got above a snails pace.  You can hear it lock.  I still cannot see what you mean by the keyholes as mine just has covers over some hole things.  Apart from the child locks on the rear doors.

can you post a photo?

Referring to Arabas' original question, I to pondered over this when I read the manual and came to the conclusion it was to allow you to lock the car if the battery had failed or was removed.  For each of the rear and passenger doors you would open it and turn the key in the slot as described and on closing that door would be locked from the outside.  The final drivers door you would lock from the outside with the key.  I assume this is because cars no longer have the lock buttons by the window which you could push down.

this makes sense. thx Saffron Skoda.

weird that the Rapid has this "sofisticated" feature when other, more market-oriented, features are missing

my dealer said that the doors auto lock when you reach 8mph...

It's so you can lock the doors if the battery is flat or disconnected as there are no internal door buttons.

Is it child locks?
