Opening the boot whilst car is running

Featured Replies

I've had a read of the manual, but think I'm missing something here.

When I've been out and dropped passengers off, they've wanted to get their stuff out of the boot. But to open it I've had to stop the engine, take out the key and plip the button on the remote to unlock it.

Is there a better way of opening it without switching engine off / removing key?

Its the standard boot BTW.

Press the unlock button in front of the gear leaver - it's next to the mode button etc.

Oh.... was it really that simple?!  Well that was a silly question then!

Hopefully ;)

No such thing as a silly question with modern cars - they're usually all over the place with where controls are.

VAG tend to be pretty good, don't get my started with vauxhall.

No offense intended Mike and it could so easily be me and probably will be in the future but still I'm PMSL

Haha, no problem. On my old car it used to just open when one of the doors was opened, but wasn't the same on this one.

Mine unlocks the whole car when an door is opened from the inside..... My missus often opens the boot straight after getting out with no problems....

Isn't there a setting in Maxidot for open all doors, or open single door only, i.e. you can get it to open all the doors when a single door is opened, if you want?

Certainly is on my MKII.

Yes there is.

Aha, the plot thickens.

I think it may also depend on how you unlock your car when you start it.

I think if I unlock all doors/boot (taking swmbo to work in the morning) with a double press on the unlock button when the car moves off all doors lock when the car stops and a door is opened all doors/boot are unlocked.

But on the way home from work I only unlock the driver's door as I'm the only one in the car.  Even after pressing the unlock button in the console of the car to let swmbo in at her work, when we get home I have to either repress the unlock button on the console or on the key to get into the boot.

If this is correct (a big if), presumably the behaviour depends on both the autolock (safelock?) system settings and the unlocking settings regarding whether only the driver's door is unlocked on first unlock button push.  I have autolocks on and drivers door only on.
