Fitting ipod and new HU

Featured Replies

Hi there, apologies if I have put this in the wrong forum, I initially was going to post in the ICE one but my question is more to do with the Fabia than the equipment.

I want to install a new head unit, a Pioneer DEH-P70BT, is it easy (a) to remove the current head unit and (B) I want to add the iPod connector CD-IB100 and put the iPod in the glove box, is there space behind the head unit for the IB100 and is there access to the glovebox for the cable to run as i don't really fancy drilling holes.

Anyone who has experience in fitting stuff like this who can offer any advice would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance.

When you have a look, removal of the glovebox is easy, 3 screws underneath, 3 screws that you see when you open it. Oh and you'll need to remove the fusebox cover on the end of the dash. When you pull the glovebox out, take care, you need to unplug the light and if you have it, the aircon pipe. Make sure the aircon pipe is unplugged from the glovebox and not the other end as its meant to be fiddly.

There is a little bit of room behind the OE headunit, but if you are changing it, you will need an aerial amp which does take up a fair bit of room. It will be tight. And there is a gap you can feed you wire from back of headunit to glovebox, but I dont think the glovebox has any holes, so you may well need to drill one.

When you say that I will need an aerial amplifier, will I need this regardless of what head unit I buy - why is this and what/where do I get one?

Thanks again!

Yes, you will need one, ask about at any car audio shop, it should be about

Thanks Moose for your informative replies. Is this the thing you mean on ebay or is this something different?

The blurb on the ebay auction seems to indicate that it's not the amplifier built into the head unit but a power supply which supplies power to an amplifier in the base of the aerial, as a result of this I am not sure if that is what you are saying as well or there are two different possibilities here.

Thanks again.

That's the part you need mate...:)

Thats the part number for the little piece of plastic trim that needs to go above your new stereo when fitted... it costs

IIRC all VAG-Cars have an aerial amplifier built into the antenna, what you need is a power supply that is connected in series with the antenna cable and gets its power from the pin for motor antenna. The VAG-radios have this built-in.

Thanks everyone for their helpful replies. I think I am just about there now.

I have ordered my replacement head unit, a Pioneer DEH-P70BT, I have the aerial booster (PC5-52).

Just a couple of final questions,

Is the aerial booster PC5-52 the right part for me, I have been doing some reading and it appears that there is a part PC5-90 which is the same part but with a DIN plug.

Also, will I have to get any sort of wiring loom or anything or is the fabia vRS a standard ISO plug?

I have noticed only today that the current Symphony unit, right had fast forward button flashes red when I get in the car before I turn on the ignition, is this something to do with security or is it connected to the alarm in some way and will it affect me changing the head unit.

Many thanks again for all your assistance.

Usually the japs use a din plug, but dont worry, the adaptor from din to what you have on the PCH-52 is usually included in the radio package.

Vag cars uses a different pin layout (constant plus and ignition plus switched around among others.

You have to get an adaptor, and its very important that pin 3 in chamber A is not connected to anything.

Light that flashes on radio is the keycode for radio... nothing to do with alarm

So I guess the part I need is this PC2-69-4 that I found on ebay.

The only thing that I am not sure of now is that this mentions something about 12v antenna, does that mean that if I buy this part I don't need the PC5-52 aerial amplifier as it is included with the wiring harness above on ebay or do I still need the aerial amplifier as well?

Thanks

You still need the "amplifier" which is not an amplifier, but a power supply, to lead said power into the antenna cable.

The germans call it Phantomspeisung. (Phantom supply)

If you hadn't paid silly money for the original radio, all this would already be fitted in your car.[nag mode off]
