Rocker cover gauze filter ?

Featured Replies

The turbo has gone in my octavia 1.9 pd, garage told me it was caused by the gauze filter inside the rocker cover that had disintegrated and small bits had been sucked into turbo causing it to fail, had new turbo fitted just waiting for rocker cover , apparently not one available in Uk it's coming from Czech Republic, anyone else ever heard of this happening , reason I ask for peace of mind is few people I have mentioned this to have rubbished this has a cause of a blown turbo.

When you say "sucked into the turbo" people will automatically assume it's been sucked in to the air intake side but It is more than likely that the broken gauze could clog the oil ways / feed and cause starvation of the turbo. If the impeller shaft is starved of oil it'll soon fail. Turbos are more than capable of spinning at over 100,000 rpm so they need to be right.
