Just wondered if anyone knew the whereabouts of the hero Yeti that took out the Ferrari, Range Rover, Maybech and fire crew in series 16 ep 1, it was a 4x4 1.8 OY59 plate Elegance in Blue i think

 

 

Just checked with DVLA vehicle enquiry and it is currently SORN'ed.

As far as I know, the top gear Yeti was retained by Skoda as it could not enter the retail market because it was considerably overloaded during the film sequences.

The roof platform alone weighed more than the maximum permissible roof loading, even before the 'copter was landed on top. If you look at the beginning of the video clip above, you'll see that the suspension was already well compressed just with the platform on the roof.

 

"Yeticopter"

Another vehicle did a tour of dealerships/shows etc just after the item was screened on top gear, but with a lightweight sectioned helicopter that was towed behind the Yeti on a trailer between events.

Probably covered when it happened but would cruise control not have been a better option - or does it not function as such a low speed, 30 mph?

The cruise control on my Octavia works as low as 15mph.

With the registration OY59 it would've been registered by Skoda HQ in Milton Keynes. So i'd imagine its sat in their compund with all the other used and abused press cars

I know that we can rent/hire various bits of equipment including cars for launches, promotions etc and am pretty certain the Yeti is one of them, so at a guess it is probably gathering dust somewhere until someone wants to rent it - along with a coffee machine and pop up tent
