Snapped hub spreader!

Featured Replies

Snapped the bloody hub spreader tool trying to open the hub.  :wall: Money well spent there, I was probably doing it wrong....

Any tips on getting the ******s off/open? Sprayed it with half a can of WD40 and gave up tonight.

They are an a***, have done it with a large GS (big flat blade screwdriver). New tool would be easiest even though annoying.

You should be able to lever it open with a large flat screwdriver or smallish crowbar or similar . It is only to open the hub. Tapping hub with hammer works too if you have sprayed with loads of WD40.

I knock a big wide chisel in from the top then knock the hub down the shock with a hammer.

It don't fit like old one as old one is held down with the original nut. Those poly bush top mount just sit on top of strut and placed up to car turret. Put loads of grease on the mounts as they will squeak otherwise. Also if you are re using your old top mount metal cups they will be sitting higher with the poly bushes. You can read my thread on fixing that.

I used a socket mounted allen key to part mine and a hammer to encourage it down the shock.

A series of Allen keys work better. Insert a key and turn it so the next size up will go in. Then turn the new key until the next size will go in...

Top cups seem to sit fairly well, not as high as I have seen.

That is not as extreme as i have seen it

The only issue is when you drive over uneven road as with that gap the strut can drop and clunk

Least you can fix it without taking strut off

that is why i modded mine

Yeah, seen your thread. Might attempt it if I have any issues. :)
