Can someone help an idiot?

So I dug out the bag of Autoglym this morning and had a look in it, there's a few things that I think might be of some use but the rest I think are best lef.

A few bottles of SRP:

The big bottle of SRP is the one I was saying I got from the Yorkshire show, and the rest are even older than that! (and the one on the far left still has its seal intact)

Out of these ones i was thinking maybe the tar remover might be of some use:

And the tyre and wheel cleaners from these, the tyre cleaner I found in the cupboard that I was saying about:

This bumper care probably won't be any good now will it?

Do you think the glass polish and screen-wash will come in handy?

So out of that bag basically there's a lot of SRP that's all old. And those round bottles have been around for years!

Thanks for the links people. as I say is it something I will look into and revise. Also, it's about the first morning I've been able to say that I'm  glad it rained last night:

If I want to apply a second coat of Ag HD wax is it best to use a shampoo that doesn't have wax in it? And can anyone recommend one that's good and doesn't have wax? I was thinking of washing it again next Saturday, can't do it tomorrow as I'm working both ends of the day, but a bird spoiled it the other day so I'll have to get that off. And while it was clean I was thinking of adding some more protection. Also when I get round to doing my dads car I was just going to give it 2 coats anyway.

I use high dev and also AG shampoo conditioner which is ph neutral so it won't strip the wax off and doesn't have any wax it it. Its 3 for 2 at Halfords too at the mo so get yourself down there!

I only put 1 very thin coat of high dev on as per AG's directions but if you want to try a second let me know how you get on! I like many more experienced detailers use sonax QD which is brilliant stuff and maintains your LSP. I apply it every 2nd wash.

Bird crap is a paint killer. If you haven't got ot off yet do so asap by leaving some wet kitchen roll sheets liberally soaked in warm shampoo on it and leave to soften it up until it just wipes off. If you leave it on too long it'll eat into your lacquer.

Good luck.

Thanks for the recommendation, I saved 20 odd quid when I bought all my other cleaning stuff last Saturday, so you can't say I'm not at least trying to take advantage of the offer :) So yeah, I'll have a run down sometime and get some of that, then wash it again and put some more wax on. I just really don't want it to strip its self down to the polish and then have to start all over again. Also I'll have to find some time when me and dad are in and not doing something so I can clean his.

I normally get the 2.5l size which is adout £16 from halfords but is real good value if you can get it 3 for 2. Other than that I get it off ebay and it normally lasts at least 12 months as you only need 2 capfulls in a bucket. The ph neutral shampoos like this and megs gold do not strip your wax so are perfectly safe to use after you've waxed or sealed your car. Likewise many of the snowfoams like valetpro ph neutral don't degrade the wax either. If you want to get the wax off farecla do a g3 detox shampoo which with a dolop of fairy and apc will get any old wax off for you. Traffic film remover (TFR) also strips the wax off too and is normally alcaline rather than ph neutral- I have some which I use under the wheel arches away from the paint to get the crud off and use a garden sprayer to apply, which can also be used for citrus prewash which can also be used first if your car is really dirty-its stronger than snowfoam, but Chris recons you shouldn't use it every time as it can degrade your wax.

So I went to Halfords today and found out that I am addicted, I thought I'd just get the AG shampoo, some snow foam and the Karcher SF lance to try out.

Ended up with that little lot, plus another pack of drying towels, another microfibre mitt, another Sheepskin mitt, a new tyre pressure gauge and a set of rubber car mats because the material ones I bought back in October have about warn through. Total of £73.94 and saved £19.98

Will have to make use of some of this new stuff on Saturday.

Hi, sorry for the topic bump and double post, but I thought I better post about today's clean.

So I dug the little Karcher out from the garage and put the snow foam lance to some use, foamed the car, then washed it all off with the power washer lance to get rid of the crap before washing the car again with the AG S&C and sheep skin mitt to get the little bits of stuck on crap off the car then dried it and put another layer of wax on to see what happened, the results, good.

I took the same picture from the same angle or there about as last time, I know the lighting is different and the first picture didn't do it justice but I do think the second coat of wax made a slight improvement.

Photo0167_zps59ecb662.jpg

I also took the wheel covers off while I had the power washer out, washer round the wheel arches, did in the bits you can't get to and did the other side of the wheel covers on the floor. Then I took the covers of the ground and I'd left 4 wheel cover shaped imprints in the moss on the drive so I parked the car on the road and washed the drive off too, it looks better than it did by a long way, not perfect, but the piddly washer did the job.

Hi Outofthi5world,

Thanks to you and this thread I've spent over £80 for my cleaning products over the weekend :@ .

Just kidding  . It was worth it. My car was never so clean and smooth.

I thought I will share my experience too:

1. washed the car with two bucket method

2. Applied clay bar along side with quick detailer (mcguire's clay kit)

3. Polished it

4. Waxed it

5. Glass polish

6. Wheel cleaner

7. Tyre seal

Most of the products were by Autoglym apart from Clay bar.

results? Brilliant

Your car looks great

Well done mate

Thanks everyone.

It looks great I know, but it was quite a few hours before I could say  "mission accomplished"  :whew:

Pretty normal to get it right

6 to 8 hours is average for a correction polish

Hi guys, sorry, but I'm back.

I was lurking on the Halfords website and just happened to stumble across this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_822069_langId_-1_categoryId_165640#tab3

I know there's a lot of people saying that DA polishers are the thing to get so was wondering when I saw this, should I? Are they hard to get used to? Would someone with my lack of skill be able to use one without too much hassle? Will this work with AG SRP or not? If not or if it's not advised can anyone recommend a polish? Can I use it to buff wax? (I have the orbital polisher like in the original post that I could use if it would be better)

And I've seen these pads:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_822075_langId_-1_categoryId_165640#tab1

And

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_822081_langId_-1_categoryId_165640#tab1

I take it I'd need at least one of each of these? And which one is better for doing what?

Do they usually keep them in stock or would I need to order it in? (I was thinking of going today)

And finally, sorry for dragging this topic back up again, but I didn't want to clutter the forum with more topics, sorry for the long post and sorry for being an idiot!

EDIT: I've just found this guide: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/314396-a-guide-to-polishing-using-a-dual-action-polisher-da/

Thanks for posting it Chris I'll have to start reading it.

Thats the guide that I have just read.

When it gets to telling you to use a couple of `skittle` sized blobs of polish on your pad...it means is `Pea` size!

Thanks.

I've just got back from Halfords, they said it was a click an online order and collect from store thing and they don't stock them in the shops, so I got a spare clay mitt, a bottle of AG Fast Glass and a spare bonnet for the little polisher.

I'll have to order the polisher sometime, maybe get it next Saturday.

I also thought I'd make it less of a wasted trip by going to Vasstech which is practically next door and seeing if they would be able to install MDI, turns out they were shut.
