Hush now, unbeliever ;)

Chris

:( I was a beleiver until people on here started telling me that it doesn't handle well, wollowy with body roll is what i'm hearing. I had my mind set on getting one in the next couple of months as well :(

Schtopper

Have you driven 1 ?

If not, go and drive then make up your own mind.

Each to his own, anyway you can always put a set of eibachs on ( as othere have done ).

If it can kick a mini cooper's butt whist having a gentle wallow, imagine stiffer suspension :D .

As said above, try one.It isn't a car that people need convincing to buy normally :thumbup:

I haven't driven one yet, it was just i was all excited about it as i hadn't heard a bad thing about it but then i started to get dis-heartened with a couple of comments.

I think i had assumed it was perhaps a better handling car than it is, i ain't saying it's BAD cos i don't know but just not go-kart like.

Plus the dealer tends to start hitting you if you start throwing a car into corners on a test drive.

It's still on my list certainly and i am hopefully going for a test drive next week, it probably won't be as bad as i've got it in my head to be.

(i'm not one for modifying really so don't want to have to uprate the suspension, although the remap is very tempting :D)

When has Clarkson ever said only good things about a car without pointing out some bad points, all cars have good and bad points, but all points considered the vRS is bloody excellent...

Only the Ferrari 355 IIRC.

The Fabia still beat the Mini Cooper and it also lapped faster on Fifth Gear as well. It won't outhandle a Mini (or my old Pug 306) for that matter because of the heavy engine.

I wasn't refering to what he said but how it looked on the track.

Hell if i listened to Clarkson i'd never have bought my car.

EDIT: How much better is it with ESP?

Like mentioned in this thread, ebachs, dampers, 17" alloys and away you go, + maybe a couple of strut braces and an anti roll bar...

Iv'e said this before regarding the Clarkson Fabia and Mini Top gear item, but I really don't believe Clarkson was driving the car at its best. This is't because I have a Fabia, this was my view long before I got my Fabia, when I first saw the episode. He was revving it too hard, and as we all know, that acheives nothing in a diesel, also he wasn't pressing the middle pedal hard enough imo. Ive never driven a Mini so can't compare the two for myself regarding the brakes or handling, although the popular concensus is the mini does handle much better.

Just an observation really, not knocking Clarkson. He has an inherent hatred for diesels and thats just the way he is, and probably always will be.

Like i said in this thread, i don't want to have to mod my car to get good handling.

Anyway i ain't slagging it off at all, i'm looking forward to having a drive and hope i'm completely over reacting. Still seems like a great car, it just may not be quite what i was looking for. Time will tell.

EDIT: I should also say the test was in the wet and there's been quite a few reports that the michelin tyres (which i assume is what that probably had) don't do that well, so perhaps with better tyres it would have done a whole lot better (or if it had been dry).

If it is what you are looking for, Im seling mine for

How come ya selling? Or should i just read the for sale post :D

My other half wants a clio 182 sport, then next feb 2006 Im gonna buy another vRS after promotion... Nice...!! ;-)

When I took one for a test drive, the dealer gave me the keys, and all he said to me was bring it back in one piece by 4pm, which I duly did. The intervening 2 1/2 hours, welll I did find out what the car could do, and OK it won't handle like say an Evo or a Scooby, but it was still very impressive  . And the oomph it has certainly frightened a few shaven headed baboons in Beemers, as I stretched its legs over the M62 from Bury to Leeds and back! :D

Clarkson likes the Fabia VRS. There's a newspaper road test written by him somewhere (things it's the times) which you can find on Google somewhere. The only negative in the whole review concerns the blandness of the dashobard!
