17" black Gigaro Rims

Featured Replies

Taking a bend, I misjudged the angle and scratched the rim of my lovely 11 plate alloys.

Damn. There now a a streak of "silvery" scrathed streak along the rim of my alloys.

What can I do to make it look black again:

1. Get a new alloy for ~ £100

2. Or what. Sand and Paint ? How is that possible. How do I do that.

3.As #2 but take it to a garage ? Where near Hemel/Watford ?

4. Any other options ?

Never had to get it done myself but I gather that alloy rims can be refurbished to look as good as new - try Googling it for Hemel / Watford - e.g. http://maxpowder.co.uk/

My pleasure, glad to help and I hope you get your wheel sorted.  Whoever you use, please remember to post feedback (positive or negative) here and if you use MaxPowder, for God's sake tell them to lighten their website background - it makes the text hard to read!

Good luck :)

Be aware that the rims are not black. They are some off black shade of which the color code is still a mystery.

£90 for one wheel??

I'd buy a new one for £120-£140 and sell that one or use as a full sized spare.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't businesses supposed to become sponsors on this forum before they can offer services?

I'm sure a moderator will show you the correct procedure.

There is a place in hemel bjv engineering. Nice and close to you and I have used them before.

Tidied up - no self promotion of trade allowed unless you a site sponsor! :)

Well I'll be damned. If they can offer an anthracite diamond cut wheel for that money then their obviously making a loss on each one. Do they sell black ones?

i bought my new black gigaro alloys from Hayselden skoda doncaster for about £125 a piece last september

Ok no self promotion form now on.

thanks guys for the links to maxpowder and bjv engineering. bjv sound expensive, so I'll give maxpowder a try first.

Might be expensive but good quality work. Let us now how you get on when you have had them done.

I thought they were black magic pearl, same as the black roofs?

Kind of. Until you paint them with black magic pearl as on the roof. It can look gash. If kerBing on a regular basis. Maybe worth getting on a set of 16" and keep the 17" in good nick.

No black magic pearl I'm afraid - They are painted a slightly lighter shade so the rim doesn't loose volume, well that is my theory.

And definitely there is no pearl or flake in that paint.

Guys, anyone know of a good tyre fitting garage near Hemel/Watford. I've managed to find a set of Vredesteins 205/40 R17 85Y for my VRS, but seems like they only deliver. Previously I used Blackcircles to source my tyres and they had garages in my vicinity.

thanks

My Gigaro's had one colour at the face and then faded badly where the coverage got weaker to the inner edges of the spokes.

Very hard to replicate a crap paint job.

I suspect the "shade" could be black magic pearl done badly, as I said, hard to replicate.
