Tyre Cracking

Featured Replies

Just noticed on SWMBO's Citigo Sport that between the tread on the front tyres (haven't had time to look at the back as she has gone to work in it) the rubber is all cracked. She's had the car for 6 month and its done about 4500 miles.

Anyone else found this?

What brand & version are the tyres?

They are the continentals, I think contisport 2?

Iv got conti sport 2 on mine. Will have to have a look! I remember a tyre dealer saying continentals cracked but iv never had trouble with them before and they are a good tyre

Years ago on a felicia I had continentals that cracked across the tread and they were the subject of a recall ,if I Remember correctly ,but we are talking 1998.

I would still try to get them replaced under the warranty as that's not on at all .mine had done about 15,000 when I noticed it .

I have continentals on my Citigo with just over 6,000 on them so will check in the morning .

Oops I forgot I had winter tyres on for 4000 miles so mine have just over 2000 but still checking, going back to the ones that cracked if I remember right they were traced back to a bad batch of tyres. Fitted in between certain build dates .

Just checked mine, all seem fine and all have a manufacture date of 3413,ie week 34 2013,what dates are yours?.

Mine are fine but I would expect that after only 2000 miles lol dated 2713

Hi guys, thanks for all the replays.

I've not long been back from work and my wife has gone to work (in her Citigo) so I'll have to look tomorrow.

The cracking on hers is in the grooves of the tread pattern.

Once I've had a look I'll post back and I'll get a pic up too.

@leckman where is the date located pal?

The production date is on the tyre, just above the rim you will see an oval shape with 4 digits in it,this is the date I am referring to.

Sorry for the delay in getting these up guys, been hectic the last few days with passing the wife going to work as I come in and getting sorted for my sons birthday party today.

Anyway hopefully the pics have attached to this ok. I've checked all 4 tyres and they are all the same, the one in the pic says 2313 for the date (assuming I'm looking at the correct bit) and the other 3 say 1613.

I've asked my dad to check his as well (also Citigo Sport) and he said his is the same. He didn't know what the date was though.

Yes, you looked at the right bit of digits in order to find out the manufacturing date.

To be honest I don't like the cracks on the tyre. I suggest you to ask a tyre expert about this and then ask your dealer. If it was me, I would send an e-mail with the photos to the Continental and ask their opinion.

Google 'Tyre Dry Rot' and you will see similar photos.

Glad i've got the Bridgestones. Don't like the look of those cracks.

Not fit for purpose, the dealer should change all of them without any quibble.

Email the photo to administrator.technical @conti.de and see what they say

Thanks for the help guys. I'll have pop into the dealership when SWMBO is not using it for work and see what they say and if they fob me off I'll contact SUK and Conti see what their take on it is. I might pop into Camskill as well on my way home and see what they think.

I take it this is not a common problem for others on here with Citigo's?

I sent four Conti premiums back due to cracking had to buy four new ones for my E class but they re imbursed me 75% in the end.

What tyre pressures have you been running the car with?

Have they been checked and adjusted over the 4,500 miles.

The Continental Tyre Dealer will be able to arrange having the tyres inspected,

but you should make the first contact with Skoda UK Customer Services.

They can arrange a visit to a Skoda Dealer, or a Continental Tyres Appointment.

Missus's is running Falkens.... were they ever standard, or would ye reckon they've been changed at some point?

Car only 5100mls on it...
