fuel cap string

Featured Replies

So the little plastic string that stops the cap from falling broke on my car. Anyone know if these can be replaced or do I need to get a complete cap?

cheers

I would quite like to replace mine to, not broken but a little worn and the rubber has cracked

Mine snapped ages go, never bothered me. i always sit the cap on the fuel pump. i don't let it dangle nore sit it on the fuel flap.

I've searched before but never found the part you mean sold withouth the cap, ~£10 used on ebay last time I looked back in Feb.

I use the cut outs in the filler cap rim as intended an put it on the fuel flap when filling up :)

Anyone know if the cap is the same on a petrol and diesel?

Mine is the same and I just do what Robbie does, saves it rubbing on your paint!

Looks like it here. The variations seem to be more to do with whether it's independently lockable or not.  (That was looking for a 2005 car, dunno if other years might show different things).

Replaced the plastic cap original for a lockable type with no string, I just pop cap on top of spoiler whilst re-fuelling.

I do (post #4) :)

If it's rested on there it can't fall off the roof if you forget it and it's easy to see if you left the flap open from the drivers door mirror.

Exactly, I used a visual representation to make it clear to anyone else on the thread ;)

Cheers guys. I must look around the breakers yard for one in good condition the next time I'm there.

I usually hang it on the flap while filling up but the string being broken annoys me!

I understand your annoyance. Mine was the same so I got one off jambro when he started breaking the car. Look in for sale section matt might still be breaking his/have it available

Does noone understand the cutouts in the filler cap?

They allow you to rest the cap ontop of the flap... (wow, poet and didn't know it)

Wow.  Never noticed that.

The cap on my 04Furby fitted an old Felicia, I borrowed from my daughter a few years ago. I was skint, daughter had taxed car ,and I had insurance. But Felica petrol cap didn't work. So ,we fitted mine to hers and it locked. So I'd say YES.

I'll get on ETKA tomorow and see if I can find anything for you folks

1J0 is a vw golf mk4 part number so they must be common across a lot of cars. Should be easy to pick up a second hand one but with the price of that one on ebay it would not be worth the trouble!!
