Vectra VXR - Bought one!

Featured Replies

As long as you steer clear from LED you shouldn't have any problems. Maybe alternators/batteries.

The worst electrical problem I think they haven't sorted yet is the CIM (column interface module) failing (the thing behind the steering wheel with the key/indicator/wiper stalk). Very costly repair.. you'll know when this goes as the cruise control disengaged on its own or the indicators stop self cancelling. I'm on 57k on at 2007 and it's still going strong :D

Chris_1d: I believe they are, and a different shape too, not a sprung collar like the normal ones.

  • Thanks for all the advice on this one folks.  I finally took the plunge and got this.       It's as it came from the dealers, I haven't had a chance to wash it so it's a bit grubby after the j

  • Not disputing its a VXR but at first glance it looked like an SRi, i know exactly how you feel about the stealth as i like that myself Ive never been a huge fan of vauxhalls but my mum currently has

Only just seen this. I had an 08 Vectra SRi 1.8 and loved it. IIRC I did 30k miles on it in a smidge over 6 months (as a year olf, 17k ex hire car), averaged almost 40mpg and used to laugh like a drai

Update :

I've done two reasonably long journeys in the car over the last week.  There were some corners and we made it round them all thank goodness!  The average mpg is a very impressive 28.9 over a distance of about 250 miles with a mixture of urban and nsl roads.  I'm still enamoured with the car and have even found time to clean it today.  I've found a few marks here and there but it's in amazing condition for a five year old car and has scrubbed up pretty well.

I've put a few pics below to show how it looks after a good clean, polish and synthetic detail spray.

I need some stuff to make the tail pipes look a bit better, they look like they've been a bit neglected.  Other than that it's getting there.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Love this. Its now back on my list for car change time. 28mpg is respectable for it too!

Yay very cool. Black Sapphire looks stunning when it has been cleaned, its just very hard to keep it clean!

Had my MOT saturday morning and passed with flying colours, no advisories!

That's good news.  No advisories is amazing!

Thanks for that.  I've ordered some & will have to get polishing next weekend, if it's not raining that is.

still think it looks good - understated intent, I'd be tempted to lose the VXR badge off the boot though. 28mpg isn't bad, about what I could see in the sister-in-law's 3.2 GSI on the run to work but I'd guess that had less go than yours :)

I was under the impression that the late saabs, got vauxhalls and ripped them apart, then made a much better car of it?

Id have a saab any day of the week. I wouldnt have a vauxhall though haha.

Not sure about petrols so much but I know the diesels were mainly Fiat MultiJet engines (very reliable from experience) which were and are used by GM also in Vauxhall/Opel and Saab. GM separately developed their own version of the 1.9 MultiJet after the failed merger of the companies.

Just search M32 gearbox problems to see the amount of information relating to the failure of this gearbox fitted to a large number of GM vehicles and unfortunately some Fiats. The general consensus on the Fiatforum is that GM developed a pretty poor gearbox. Not 100% sure of all the facts myself though.

Watched a repeat of the top gear review of the insignia vxr. A near on 300 bhp V6 saloon for £30k is a bit of a bargain.

I'm currently pondering a Saab Aero. Same engine as the vectra..plenty of bargains to be had. £475 a year tax though..ouch!!

Very nice car - Almost bought a 9-3 estate with the same engine in. Chris - If you get hold of a pre 2006 one (basically a 55 plate) it falls into the lower tax bracket, so something like £280 rather than nearly 500! I missed out on a manual estate, so have ended up with a 9-5 aero HOT estate. 250bhp - only had it a week, but already VERY impressed with it considering how much I paid for it :)
