As the title says really. The key won't unlock the car but it will lock it and the boot button works too. Any ideas? Tried to resync the key did nothing. New battery too

Does the red LED on the fob flash when the button(s) is pressed? Do you have the second key and does that work?

No led does not flash when unlocking but does for locking. Don't have a 2nd key :-(

The cheapest things to try first. Disconnect the battery for a short period and then reconnect  = free

Replace the battery in your key fob = Less than £1

Could be the micro switch on the fob, strip the PCB out (takes 10 secs) and have a look/listen to it.

sorted it, took it apt and the plastic bit on the button side which touches the micro switch was bent and not touching the switch

Open the fob as if changing battery, give a good blow to the side of the pcb (aiming to blow any dust out underneath). Worked for me. 

 

My problem was not unlocking but would lock, no flashing led on key fob.

2006 Octavia
