Flashing battery light

Featured Replies

It's not permenantly on, but does flash every now and then. Stays on for a bit then goes out. It might stay off for 15 miles then flash as bit for a couple of miles then stay off again.

I have had this problem for the last week, I have checked the alternator - fine, alternator cable changed and the battery is fine.

Has any one else had the same issue and point me in the direction of a solution?

Are you sure the alternator is fine? Had a similar issue before and my friend showed me a cool trick, long screw driver, tip onto the housing of the alternator and cup your hands over the top of it and listen carefully. I could hear that the bearing was on the way out. Cool little trick.

It'll probably be the alternator starting to fail.

For the light to come on, the alternator has to stop charging. If you've checked all the connections on battery and alternator, it doesn't leave much else

Could it be a case of the alternator belt starting to stretch? It only really seems to happen when the car is warm.

If the belt was slipping enough, it could stop it charging, but you'd hear the belt squeel

Check the alternator cable for signs of getting hot..... (aka early onset off melted fuse box....)
