Roomster Automatic

Featured Replies

Hi, I am looking at getting a one or two year old Roomster (Auto) and would be grateful for any comments from existing owners. This would be a locally used car, probably not used on long journeys.

I already have a Superb DSG which I why I want to keep to auto. Fuel consumption is of very little interest to me.

Cheers and thanks

Old Roomsters were with old fashioned automatic transmission and they were offered with 1.6 litre gasoline engine, naturally aspired. That's not too economical combination.

Newer Roomsters (since 2010) are equipped with 1.2 TSI (105 hp version) and 7 speed DSG transmission (with dry clutches). That's as economical as it's with manual transmission. Manufacturer claims combined consumption is about 5.7 l per 100 km.

3yrs old, 22,000 miles, 1.2 105 DSG, Roomster SE. Still simple to drive and economical, often used as a van. SWMBO is a timid driver but loves the Roomster DSG, So much so it is only being replaced by a similar mechanical Yeti SE instead of a Roomster because I need a higher seat for entry and exit (and the fact we both dislike the full glass roof.)

I have been very pleased with the 1.2 TSI 105 - DSG combo, and can recommend to anyone not wanting to change gears themselves. As you already drive a DSG-equipped car you will know the differences to a standard auto transmission.
