New one to me can't say I would want to do that!

I'm wanting to know if it actually is good and does help I'm quite skeptic as well

I've done it quite a bit. Presently running without it.

Cant make my mind up if it helps - but It's said to make the engine lees smokey and sound 'smoother' when cold.

It's a bit too much of a hassle when fueling up too.

This has been covered many times, so I'll summarise for those incapable of using google / search facilities:

Modern diesel has no sulphur in it, unlike old diesel.  Sulphur acts as a lubricant, especially useful for the fuel pumps.

The theory is, that by adding 2 stroke oil, this helps lube the fuel pump, acting as a replacement of the sulphur.

Yes, I've tried it, no, I'm not still using it.  I figure a fuel pump replacement is probably cheaper & easier than faffing with 2 stroke at every fill up.

This 'lubrication' refers to old tech diesel pumps, modern common rail and PD engines don't have old tech diesel pumps.

It's a myth based on old information which is no longer relevant. I doubt it would do any harm although synthetic two-stroke oil is expensive and the molecules are a lot larger so it might affect the atomisation pattern or possibly even partially clog the injector head over time so on balance, since there are no benefits I wouldn't bother.

Put Acetone in as well to counteract the larger molecules - and you are back were you started - with possibly no gains.

I've tried it on my PD100,  tried different brands and recommended ones from what I read on forums -

Result - NOTHING WHATSOEVER.

total 100% waste of time.

NO percievable gains at all,    same MPG,  same noise,  same rough ass diesel feeling.

Another one of those bull**** things,   another bull**** one is the 'cage mod'.

and to think I thought I was mental for thinking door colours dont match...

If you want to mix fuel with two stroke oil, get a 50cc bike mate... dont go putting it in a car. just my two penneth worth.

Don't do it!!!

Re-read your question. You are not thinking of doing it, just asking if its a good idea. In my opinion, its a terrible idea.

I thought I noticed reduce engine braking in higher gears when I tried using it but I suppose it could have just been a placebo :)

Used it for years. Just sploshed some in now and again. Doesn't make any difference I can tell, but now have 184K and no problems (touches wooden head !). Originally started using it when read report of Mercedes using it in Russia - but this was years ago and rural Russian fuel was very suspect so doubt they would do it now. Tried checking fuel consumption very carefully for a while; came to conclusion that there were more mpg per diesel fill up - but the extra was exactly the same as if the quantity of 2 stroke had been diesel! Clean fuel and air filter much more important.

BTW the cage mod did make a noticeable difference to me; it solved a stumbling problem with a cold engine.  It will only "work" if there is a problem with the connectors, so no problem= no improvement. Several manufacturers use it in connectors to MAFs and computers, although I think it is more about preventing corrosion.. Again, it can't do any harm.
