Servicing

Featured Replies

If the Skoda I've bought is on variable servicing and the last 2 stamps are Skoda stamps is it likely that the Belts and pump have been changed. Serviced at Wings 59,917 and AutoSales 79,996?

In my service book the mechanic made a note at the back of the service book that the belt had been changed.
If it's not been noted down I would doubt that it's been done.

Give us a clue! How old is the car, petrol or diesel?

If it's a diesel the mileage limit will be listed in the service book, it's usually between 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Skoda UK have a blanket four year (irrespective of mileage) interval for the cambelt.

Are skoda still saying 4 years for belt change I think vw say 5 years ?

2010, 84,000 Diesel

Yep, let's see if Skoda UK follow suit!

2010, 84,000 Diesel

Given that it is 4 this year it'll need a cambelt sometime this year regardless of mileage.

Looking at the mileage you're either very close or just past the milage interval.

Time to start saving!

Thought as much, I bought the car Thursday for ALS Auto in Ely Skoda dealer and forgot to ask about the belts :(  :( , only when a mechanic friend of mine mentioned about the belts did I realized I hadn't asked.

So I would be optimistic thinking that as I bought the car Thursday with a 3 month warranty that it wouldn't be cover?

Not covered, wear and tear item, contact dealer though see what they say they may do the work a little cheaper if not ring round get a few prices amazing differences can be had example dsg oil replacement for my car one dealer over £200 another £130 both within 15 miles of each other.

I have just had a timmig belt and water pump - coolant and apparently three (3) stretch bolts on fuel pump replaced by a main Skoda dealer £449. The car was showing 54,000 but was 4 yrs old in May . Was tempted to do myself but decided not to as a small mistake on my part would cost alot. I believe the parts alone come to around  £200 and had a free loan car and mine was washed and cleaned.

If you're from down ALS autos way you could try this guy in March... 01354 653444. Was a Skoda dealer mechanic for many years and has never let me down with my Skodas!

No because belts or pump are not part of the service schedule... they are additional (cost) items.

just get it booked in a get the belt and pump changed as there is nothing worse than the belt snapping on your new purchase, the warranty will be worthless if it snaps and the belt wasn't changed within skodas recommended limits (earlier of 80k / 4 years)

if it was done by skoda they would normally tick a box in the stamp book saying it was done

Thanks Lads, phone Jonathan today at ALS, been told cam belt not done on last service. Either 4 yrs or 110,000 on the CR engine which I thought was a bit high. Looks like it will need doing asap for piece of mine. Anybody recommend a good VAG garage in the Wigan area?

Hmm, but servicing is a cost item too, with additional elements replaced 'if required' such as fuel, air and pollen filters.

If I bought an approved used Skoda from a franchised Skoda main dealer that was over four years old or had exceeded the cambelt mileage interval then I would expect that the car was presented to me serviced according to the manufacturers requirements i.e. having had it's cambelt and tensioners replaced.
