Sun shades for the little girl.

Featured Replies

Hello chaps, obviously the market is flooded with this stuff, but I was just wondering whether anyone has found any sun shades for the rear of their car (estate) that protect their children from the sun.

So ideally, not a tinted window, a sun shade that fits the window reasonably well, doesn't have pictures or big writing on it and can be removed or stowed easily. Oh and not too costly.

Thanks in advance!

Either OEM or vanstyle sun blinds, made to measure. depends on your definition of "costly", either options above will cost around 80quid but you won't get better window coverage.

There's quite a few threads with pics around if you search "sunblinds".

My Vanstyle Octy II estate blinds should be in the for sale section somewhere at £50+p&p.

Brilliant things.

Give me a shout if you're interested.

Bloody Nora.

Didn't realise these were such expensive things! I was hoping someone would say eBay - £10 or something lol.

We went through a few sets of generic cheap ones but they never seemed to be covering the right area. Bit the bullet and forked out for vanstyle in the end, not regretted it one bit.

They also help keep the interior cooler and look like tints from a distance and make it very difficult to see inside the back.

If the answer you wanted was "£10 from eBay " you should have asked a different question :-)

I've been there and done that with cheap sun blinds. I firstly experimented with square stick on tints and then with sucker cup stick on roller blind style shades. They are all rubbish, primarily because they don't cover the whole window and there always seems to be a shaft of light in the little ones eyes.

I got a set of the made to measure vanstyle shades for my Octavia estate and they are worth every penny. You can still open the rear windows with the shades in place and they shade the whole rear of the car as you get a blind for every rear window. I was so impressed I then bought a set for my Fabia estate too. I really couldn't recommend them enough.

If you were desperate you could get a lovely pair of window sox: http://www.windowsox.co.uk/

So spectacularly horrific they make wearing socks with sandals look chic.

You know I contemplated them. To be fair she's only in it when I'm on leave and the weekend etc so I might just get some outlook auto shades. Seems best of both worlds.

Best solution is probably just to buy her some peppa pig sunglasses she can keep on in the car. :)

Ha! I'd love to see those stay on! She's only 6 months bless her. She wriggles like there's no tomorrow!

Well, I was watching them, I guess you've promoted the hell out of them on here now! So minimised my chances lol.

The outlook ones aren't cheap tat like the ones you've pictures though.

Well you did post asking for help with finding some blinds!

Try the 'For Sale' section too. They often come up for sale in there.

The 'Vanguard' ones are very similar to OEM too, again these are readily available.

Try posting in the 'Wanted' section too.

Those outlook shades only cover the door windows. You'll still have sun coming in through the rear window and rear quarter windows which will be just as troublesome as your daughter will be in a rearward facing seat for a while longer.

As silver1011 says, buy cheap buy twice (or in my case buy cheap buy three times). Someone once mentioned that Vanstyle actually manufacture the OEM blinds that Skoda stock, but I'm not sure. I do know they are very good blinds, and actually may not be expensive in the long run when you factor in how much you'll get for them on E-bay when you replace your car.

+for van style

Had these fitted just over a month now and impressed. wasn't keen on the idea of a split down the middle of the rear window but you get used to it. The way I see it - those crappy roller blinds cost £10 a piece and you'd need four to get decent coverage. These come in a few £ more than that but have residual value, cover the whole window, let you open the window while they are fitted to let the hot air out while keeping bugs out and wind noise down and finally look better than the simple ones (looks tinted from a distance).

I had autosox on my Honda Civic and currently have the Vanstyle shades on my Scout. Of the two, I prefer the Vanstyle. The exterior part of the Sox are liable to get damaged either deliberately or accidentally by people walking past. Whilst travelling through Spain I came back to find I had a small tear and scorch mark on the Autosox, not sure if it was someone trying to set fire to them or if it was the sun!

The only problem I have with the Vanstyle shades is the rear window shade seemed to interfere with the auto dimming function of the rear view mirror.

+1 for the Autosox, i'm happy with mine. I only ever put them on at the weekend when transporting the nipper, rest of the time there squeezed into the rear door pockets..

Well I bought the outook ones. Fit fine, protects her and don't make much noise at 70. Happy.

I'm now a company car driver and really miss my tints. I didn't know that shades were so good. Was dreading a couple of stick on cat ones.

What is the view out like with the vanstyle/uvcarshades ones like?

The view is quite good.

My previous car (Chrysler Voyager) had a strong black factory tint on all the windows behind the driver. I used to think they were a little dangerous on a dark night when it was raining and you were trying to pull out of a junction where the angle of the roads meant you had to look through the rear side windows. In this situation they did restrict vision quite badly.

I don't find this with the vanstyle shades as they are perforated material.

I thought this would be an issue when I fitted mine, but I have not suffered this. My dimming mirrors seem to work as they always have.
