Machine polishers?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Been looking at buying a machine polisher but don't know which one to get or which is the easiest to use ? Anyone got any advice on them or could recommend one?

Thanks

All I know is, and I am sure there a lot of people who know a lot more, is that you can only really polish a car with a machine polisher a very limited amount of times.

This is because it will take a small amount off the thickness of the lacquer each time. So think very carefully before investing in any amount of money on one as you will have to justify it's cost. This certainly put me off buying one.

The other thing I know (only due to researching before deciding not to buy) is that rotary polishers are more risky for a novice to use. So a DA is the way to go for us noobs.

As above - a DA is best starting point, rather than rotary polisher.

Your choice of polish, pad and technique will be a factor.

Currently on my DA i'm using either Gtechniq P1 or Britemax Blackmax - both with great results.

Machine polishing need not be any more aggressive than polishing by hand.

There are tonnes of pad and polish combinations out there, including pads with zero cut and glazes/paint cleansers with little to no abrasives, then there is the option to apply LSP's with a machine polisher, far thinner than you can by hand, which can be very beneficial.

It is a great investment, but it will require practice to see the full benefits. Dual action is far safer to cut your teeth on than a rotary as it generally doesn't add the complication of potential heat build up.

For my money, the DAS6 Pro is a great buy especially using the cleanyourcar group buy or discount code. It's the only one I have used but extensive reading of reviews lead me to it, and I am very happy.
