Oil Temperature for VRS TSI

Featured Replies

My engine oil temp reaches 108-110 degrees after 20-30mins of driving. The owners manual says that normal operating temps are 80-110 and to avoid high revs when they exceed 110. Is my car running hot, or is this normal for a VRS petrol?

My main reason for concern is that I had a water coolant pump failure a few weeks ago, and after replacement there may be an air lock which is bumping up temps. Water temps do however appear fine, remaining in the middle of the gauge at all times.

What temps do you guys with petrol VRS's see?

Normal for me

Cheers parsey83.

Mine is around 90, consistently.

Even my diesel runs around 100C and have seen 105C on the motorway so 110C on a petrol seems ok to me.

Keep an eye on your coolant level, mine hit the lower level at 7k and needed topping up, if it does this again it will be going in to dealers to check for leaks.

Mine ran low after a week, but that's because it came fitted with a leaky coolant pump from the factory. It took the dealer ages to replace it, refill the cooling system and then bleed all of the air pockets. First time they had replaced one and it was a bit of a bugger to do.

My petrol 1.8 TSI runs around 100-105 degrees C while doing 100 km/s. Usually it is around 102-103, so the other ends depend on the wind - belive it or not, but it makes few degrees difference for me.

One weird thing I have noticed is when the temp has not reached that mark, the car tends to consume about 0.5L less. I am talking about the range of 70-95 degrees or so... Since the temp gets up pretty quick, it is hard to test or prove the theory.

If it provides some interest - usually my coolant temp gets to 90 before oil even reaches 50.

I have done about 7000km and I have done one early oil and filter change.

Mine goes up to 105 when motorway cruising and 110-115 when driving spiritedly

Mine is the same as LewJo, seems like the normal operating temperatures for this engine.

Cheers guys. I was just a little worried when the owners manual suggested 80-110 was normal and I was hitting the top end. I guess that it is just a generic recommendation to cover all engines, and that a petrol turbo will sit at the higher end.

I'm able to reach 115 when I push it hard on a highway for a long enough time at 160-180 km/h.

1.6 tdi

I don't think it's a problem until it reaches 120 degrees. Every good modern oil is capable to perform well under these conditions.
