7 month wait!

Featured Replies

I've just checked my company car website for an update on my new VRS estate. Originally I was told mid August when I ordered at the start of March. Now it's saying October!!! Can't believe it'll take 7 months to make a car!!!

It doesn't. Making it only takes 2 days or so....waiting for it to be made however...

That'll be the TDI Estate vRS, yep 7 months is about right.

It's worth the wait.

7 months, pfft nothing.

9 months for my Superb back in 2011.

Hope so. Last new car I has was a prius but that only took 5wks. My friend works for Nissan and apparently they made 84,000 quashqai in 3 months. Why are skoda making the VRS so slow??

Sounds about right. My hatch wasn’t much quicker >6 months. I love it now it’s landed and in reality I had a car with tax and test so it’s not like I was without a car for that time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if I’d have known it would take 6 + months when I ordered instead of the 3 I was told I may not have ordered.

As it was for the last 3 months it was always just ‘about another month away.’

7 months must seem like forever in a Prius....

I waited 6 months - it's about right for most car manufacturers if you're buying bespoke builds imo.

Prius isn't bad but only got it for Company Tax reason and had a Range Rover for private. Hopefully the VRS estate will give me the Load space, grin factor but also a good motorway muncher

That's fine if they were honest about the wait time.

I was told 12-16 weeks and here I am 25 weeks/6months later and still no car, that's the part that's unacceptable.

I agree. Do you have a BW yet? Seems that those waiting since last year are being forgot about with people that ordered in January this year seeming to be getting cars already.

Had a look at a Honda Civic tourer. They can build to my spec and deliver this month! OK, not as popular. BUT even a Mk7 Golf Estate is quoted 12-weeks.

so I'm sorry waiting 6-months for a 'bespoke' build on a normal car is not normal. I reckon you would get a Rolls-Royce quicker.

Then when you complain to SUK that you were quoted 16-weeks and now it going to be 30-weeks (because you add 3-weeks for Xmas) they tell you the dealer quoted you wrong. BUT the dealer gets a weekly update from SUK on expected lead times. I saw the sheet from November and it was stating 12-16 weeks. Seems SUK will not take this back to the factory.

I think we should try to get a clear picture of how many of us are waiting from last year. There are 3 VRS orders at my dealer with no idea of when we will get our cars.

I ordered my new Octavia VRS on the 21st January this year and was told by the dealership that I would have the car in three to four months from that date. From what I have seen on this forum there is not a chance my car will be with me by June when my current Oct's finance agreement is due to run out. Due to the delay my current car will be PX'ed at more mileage that was quoted at the time and potentially I will have to either pay off the outstanding finance on my current car before I PX it with the dealership on the new car or will, if its an option, continue to pay the monthly figure I have been paying on the car until the new one appears.

When I was shopping around i had been advised by other dealerships that there was more chance of me becoming prime minister than me getting my new car in 3 to 4 months. I just hope that the dealership will honour our agreement with the PX price they have offered me, bearing in mind the fact the car will have even higher mileage than quoted and will be older.

Why Skoda UK don't publish the lead times on these cars I don't know. In any other industry they would open another factory or change shift patterns to increase production, not let their existing or new customers down.

I'm not sure what the lead times are for "just open another factory", however I am almost certain they will be longer than the product life cycle of an Octavia 3.

I spoke to a dealer in Bury St Ed's this week and discussed a quote for a vRS hatch. I mentioned the Briskoda forum and the general consensus of a 6 to 7 month wait but was told that according to the latest updates it's 3 to 4 months. I'm in sales myself and believe in being honest....I don't sell Skoda's though!

Hatches are about 17-weeks and Estates 28-weeks so your dealer is quoting about right. The dealers get an update from SUK telling them estimated lead times for various models. They can only go on what they are told via SUK.

SUK seem to blame dealers for misleading customers, as in my case, but the dealer has no contact with factory so can only go by what SUK say.

3 to 4 months for a vRS is a joke. My order is nothing special, but is an estate, and was placed on 6 Oct 2013. It is built but not here yet (6 months 11 days).

Where did you get that info from CJ? Was it a reliable source? Cheers

Finally got mine today after pretty much exactly 6 months...

It is indeed a nice car so far, I really hope anyone still waiting even longer than me gets theirs soon...!

And by some miracle I seem to have the 'VRS Button' which everyone said didn't exist.  Maybe that's why it took so long.

Pictures?

The Škodas are hand built, by people. Less robots build the Skoda... Quality is proffered over quantity and the woman and men who build them take pride in the construction of our cars. Did you know that when the cars reach a certain quality or above; they get paid bonuses?

I've seen the sheet the dealers are given to quote from if that is what you mean. I've seen the November sheet where it said 12-16 weeks and the current where it is 27-weeks for an estate.

I think we also need to remember it doesn't take that long to actually build a VRS, that is probably less than a day. It's the wait for the factory to start building it which is due to unexpected demand. Suppliers also need to get parts to the factory. So those parts for VRS only (bumpers, seats etc) may add to the delay.

For me it's not the extended wait that is the issue it is the fact I cannot get a build week and then others seem to get their cars before me despite ordering later. I ordered end of November and was expecting it about now. It then went to BW18 and now no BW.

If I could get another car with the space for the same monthly cost I would jump but I can't.
