Removing old wheel balance weight glue - help!

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

Having owned the VRS for nearly three months I have decided to take the wheels off and give them a really good clean inside.  Getting tar spots etc. off has been no problem, but the sticky patches where old balance weights used to be refuse to come off.

I have tried soaking them in various spirits but nothing seems to work.  Can anyone recommend a method for removal that doesn't involve anything too vicious?  The lacquer on Skoda wheels isn't the thickest!

Thanking you in anticipation.

Warm them up with a hair dryer.

Use Autoglym Tar Remover or heat and a wheel weight adhesive remover (looks like a chisel but made of plastic)

+1 as above. Will come off easy.

Thanks for the responses,

I'll give this a go at the weekend, just got to smuggle SWMBO's hair dryer down to the garage! ;)

Cheers

Yep, heat will definitely help. Then scrap off, using a suitable tool as mentioned, along with white spirit/WD40 or similar to help it along the way.
