Brake Judder?

Featured Replies

Hi all i fitted some Audi TT 312mm calipers around 2 weeks ago asmy discs and pads were shot. now i put new drilled and grooved discs on and new brembo pads also at the same time had to put a new piston kit on 1 the calipers. Fitted them, bleed the brakes and slowly wore them in touching the brake pedal slightly for good few miles as i drove to newcastle and have now started using the brakes more and more now. But iv noticed when im slowing down from speeds off around 10-15mph it feels like im getting a judder almost like the cars rocking to a stop. Anybody got any ideas what it could be higher speeds they seems fine.

Could be dirt of some kind between the pads and the drilled n groved, just a thought, do they squeak wen coming to a stop?

Nope dont squeak at all mate all sounds fine. All discs and pads are brand new so wouldnt think its a warped disc as i have hardly used the car.

I own a vrs but have a ep3 type r with drilled n groved, they squeak from time to time at low speed, which ive been told could be dirt picked up, I changed the back pads last week and they r shuddering at high speed, wen I say high I'm mean having to touch them at 140, 150 mph, I'm putting it down to beding in, how many miles have u done on them

Just read ur post again, I'd giv it 200 2 400 miles of easy breaking n then start worrying

Havnt done alot i fitted them then day after did a 300mile journey to newcastle hardly using brakes then a 300mile journey back then iv only really pottered around town in them. Havnt braked hard yet only really slightly touching the brakes.

Have u checked the calibers r free, u cud have a sticky 1 about 2 seize, I'm no expert bud, just thinking the basics

I had 1 seized in the Honda, did,nt even realise until I heard metal 2 metal sound, pads lasted a week cause the caliber was seizing and pushing the pads to disc full time, you would,nt of known, did,nt hold car back at all, but needed new caliber and you will go threw pads a lot quicker than no drilled n groved, I'm sure u no that yourself bud

You say it's happening when you get to ~10-15mph, correct?

And you have drilled and grooved pads, correct?

Dunno then

Well before i fitted them my old man had a look 1 piston went back in a piece of **** and the other was buggered so i fitted a new piston and repair lit to the drivers side caliper so thats all fresh now and dad said other seemed fine. Its weird hou saying about car holiding back as i braked the other day and it did seem like the car was holding back when i accelerated away. I do know my rear drivers side brake is slightly sticking would this cause it??

Yea wen i get to 10-15 mph and i have dimpled and grooved discs soz got it wrong lol

Uneven breaking will make you feel it sumwer, through the steering wheel, if front, is ur handbrake o.k, is she tight or loose

I don't understand ur last post, r u sorted or have an idea

I think wee cud be on the right road, get the caliber checked, drive with ur handbrake on slightly n then let it down, n c if she,s holding back, back calibers r a common problem on the vrs

Im thinking maybe the fronts need wearing in some more properly. And as for handbrake its always felt fine have noticed if i leave car on drive with handbrake on when move of the drive and go down the road can hear the passenger side brake squeling for abit then goes away when u go quicker. i currently have my car on axel stands with rear wheels off i spun the passenger rear and disc moves round as it should spun the drivers rear and could hardly move it felt solid.

It's calipers by the way Mick. Caliber is a measurement of unit.

Turn that B on its arse! :p

As for the issue with the rocking, sounds like warped discs, you could very easilly have warped them by holding them on for the few miles as you have stated in the past.

Take a look at the disc and see if there are any signs of blackening towards the edge of the disc.

If not, pop them off and ensure you cleaned all the crud off the face of the hub before you put it back on again.

The grooves in the discs should have helped the pads bed in very quickly in comparison to standard discs.

Ok cheers for info when i fitted then i was only slightly braking not holding brakes on or anything for ages just slowly touching them to a stop not to hard. Surely if they was warped wouldnt it do it at high speeds not just when goin slow?? Im guna check out my rear drivers caliper tonight as i cant turn the disc for **** its solid not sure if this could cause the judder or should i say rocking to a stop as thats what its doin then when i let off the brake it almost feels like its holding on then stops hmmm

Think i found the problem drivers side rear brake is now fine and free. decided to just check the passenger side with some fresh grease etc didnt even need to take 1 the pads out as 1 of them has come apart so was loose. So im quessing thats why my car felt like it was rocking when slowing down due to having a broken pad.
